However, my best friend's (his name's Tom) initial optimism pushed us
together into a LONG fitness journey. Both of us had just started
college that year, and working out seemed to be the single best thing

“HERE'S THE WORST WORKOUT METHOD FOR HARDGAINERS”

At my 18th birthday, I received what was considered the "Muscle
building bible" at the time:

Ex Mr. Olympia and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger's book revealing all
his routines, exercise compositions and workout methods.

Me and my friend, WE INSTANTLY HIT THE GYM and started to implement
the ORDEAL that Schwarzie was teaching in his book.

We were mainly doing high volume training, which basically consists
of performing a very high number of sets, doing lots of exercises.

AND TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU THIS: we applied this celebrity's advice
to the "T". We did every exercise, every set, every rep that was in
the book. 5-6 days per week.

At the end of each workout, I had moments of nausea. My lips would
turn white and a strange sensation in my stomach made me puke in the
toilets. Nasty!

We even swallowed every popular supplement and drank a ton of
different meal replacement shakes that was supposedly helping skinny
guys like us to get ripped faster.

_AND WE HOPED FOR THE BEST_

Weeks were passing. We were spending a HELL of alot of time at the
gym, even missing week-end parties in order to have the time to
workout.

One day, a friend asked us: "Hey! Where are you guys going?"

- “To the gym", we responded. "We're working out 5 times per week!

- “oh! I didn't even know that you were working out."

WHAT?! His response had the same effect as a punch right into our
stomach.

_2 months spent at the gym, working out 5 days a week_ WAS ACTUALLY
WASTED. Despite all our efforts and sacrifices, we looked not much
different than at the beginning.

Can you too feel the frustration we were feeling at that moment? Have
you ever experienced the painful moment of getting no results
whatsoever from your efforts?

AT A POINT, MY FRIEND SAID: "Leave it. I'M GIVING UP. I regret having
gone into this stuff and wasting my time. _I guess we'll never see any
bits of muscle showing up_, and that's just the way it is."

What a loser I love my friend, but his resigning to failure really
made me despise him. I was determined to NEVER give up on my dreams.

Tom got fired from college because of a nasty event that I don't want
to speak about here.

After his expulsion, he went to South Africa. I was sad that my
workout partner went abroad, but he would at least stop poisoning my
life with such negativity.

We didn't see each other for three years. We occasionally sent a few
e-mails to each other, but he never saw a picture of me.

So, when he came back to my town, to see his family, and when he
finally saw me three years after we split our ways HIS JAW DROPPED.

He was still as skinny as I remembered, while I proudly lived in a
