Over the last 45 years I’ve been what you might call a serial

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SYSTEM

 

Back in 1994, Drs. Fred Travis and John Douillard, conducted several
scientific tests to measure the difference in athletic performance
between subjects using two distinctly different styles of breathing.

They put six young men through two sets of tests on stationary bikes
with increasing resistance over a set interval of time.

In one set of tests the men were instructed to breathe naturally, the
way they would normally, under similar athletic conditions.

During the second set of tests, the men were instructed to use a
special nasal breathing technique which we now feature in The MetaZone

SPEED, RESISTANCE and DURATION in both tests were identical.

The doctors measured

* breath rate
* heart rate
* perceived exertion
* alpha (EEG brain wave) power and coherence

“In one of our case studies on breath rate during a bicycle stress
test, we found that as the exercise load increased; the breath rate
went up, peaking for the subject at 47 breaths per minute using
conventional mouth breathing. At the maximum breath rate, all of our
subjects were anaerobic, gasping for air and pushing right to the edge
of their capacity.

The same subject was tested two days later on the same stress test,
except that he used nasal breathing… This time the breathing was
comfortable the entire time, even at the highest level of stress, and
the average breath rate was 14 breaths per minute.

This result is even more impressive when you consider that the
average breath rate for people at rest is around 18 breaths per
minute.”
