A practical, concise and easy to comprehend self-improvement guide
based on the principles of life coaching

DESCRIPTION - INTRODUCTION This book contains knowledge, principles,
and methods aiming to help you become more organized in your efforts
to set and achieve your goals and handle your everyday challenges.

_The life coaching perspective_

It is written from the perspective of life coaching, a relatively new
modality, which begun in the '80s in the U.S. and soon spread all over
the word. Life coaching could be regarded as a toolbox of
methodologies and techniques based on the grounds of the so-called
"humanistic approach", which maintains that people can come up with
their own answers to their problems provided they are given the proper
attention, understanding, and support so that they can explore and
understand themselves better. Also, life coaching is based on the idea
that goal-oriented behaviors stemming from conscious choices and
decisions of the individual can lead to better results in both our
professional and personal areas of life.

In life coaching, the person is helped to understand their needs and
wants and to crystallize them in the form of specified goals to be
pursued, so that clients can move forward from their current situation
to the desired one.

Furthermore, in life coaching the individual is taught a series of
useful skills on how to perform more effectively in certain life /
work areas; such skills may include goal setting, communication, time
management, assertiveness, confidence, interpersonal relationships
skills etc. Thus, the objective of life coaching is both personal
development and also the achievement of whatever goals are important
to the individual.

In addition, in life coaching the idea is not to tell people what to
do with their lives, but rather to help them explore their options by
asking clever, self-explorative questions such as "_if money wasn't an
issue, what job would you prefer to do?"_ etc. Therefore, a life coach
is not meant to give advice to their clients but, by applying the
"dialectic / Socratic method", encourage them to come up with new
ideas, options and their own solutions.

How I decided to write this book and why

Having a significant experience as a business and personal / life
coach myself, I've noticed some commonalities amongst the various
issues presented by my clients. For instance, proper organization of
one's time and overcoming procrastination, communication and
confidence issues, assertiveness issues (how to stand up for one's
rights without becoming aggressive), relationships with others, goal
setting and motivation, general sense of well-being and harmony, were
the most common themes I came across. Also, entrepreneurs and
professionals are always keen to learn new methods to improve their
sales performance and also expand their leadership skills so that they
can grow their business and "make a difference" in their field.

Therefore, I've studied extensively the relevant literature on these
subjects; I became enthusiastic with all the material available
nowadays in books, seminars, CDs, DVDs, videos etc; in fact, we live
in a world abundant in information and knowledge!

Initially, I started putting all this information together in the form
of notes and exercises to be handed to my clients. Periodically, I
added new stuff until I was convinced that the educational material
provided was up-to-date, sufficient, and easy to comprehend. I didn't
want my clients to spend a lot of time studying complex things or
reading scientific articles; thus, I made every effort possible to
present all what they needed in the most concise and helpful way.
Then, I realized there are a lot of people who would benefit from the
knowledge accumulated within these notes. Thus, I made up my mind to
prepare this e-book, so that everybody can rip the benefits of these
learnings.

Hence, I've chosen the most popular themes appearing in coaching
sessions to present them to you, the reader of this book.

What are you going to find and why it is useful

Specifically, in chapter #1 we're going to discuss the issue of
goals, their importance and also how you can set your own priorities
and crystallize what you really want to achieve. The key to
goal-setting is to understand your needs better, become aware of what
is really important to you, what motivates you and gives you a sense
of accomplishment and fulfillment.

In chapter #2 we refer to the subject of "obstacles" that may
obstruct your way to success; they can be either practical or
emotional (e.g. the "fear of failure"). You will be helped to gain a
different perspective on this issue and to realize how your perceived
expectations of future events can influence your decisions and actions
(or inactions) in the "here-and-now".

In chapter #3 we will discuss how you can prepare your own action
plan in a practical manner. Coaching is very much solution-focused, so
you are encouraged early from the beginning to think of the activities
that help you move towards your goals and organize them in a way which
is both effective and practical.

In chapter #4 the subject of "self-observation" is presented. You see,
having goals, acknowledging the obstacles and preparing an action plan
do not suffice for your success. What you need is a method that helps
you monitor and self-correct your actions throughout the
implementation of your plan. Here, you'll be learning how to become
more aware of your thoughts and feelings and how to align them with
the positive outcomes you seek out.

In chapter #5 we will discuss the subject of "beliefs". Our beliefs
are assumptions of truth we may hold for certain things in life (e.g.
_"You need to have higher education to make money" _etc.); yet, they
are not always valid; indeed, sometimes they are true just because
we've deemed them true or learned them from others. Thus, they can be
limiting our ability and motivation towards success; we'll discuss how
to re-examine them and then decide to keep the positive ones.

In chapter #6 we're going to explore the subject of "talents", things
you are good at or/and natural qualities you may possess. You see, to
become successful you should tap into your strengths and talents and
make a decision to cultivate them. It is also important to explore
your interests and inclinations, so that you can align your
professional activities with your inner passion.

In chapter #7 we will discuss the subject of relationships; I believe
both success and happiness in life are linked to the quality of
relationships we develop with other people; so, in this chapter you'll
learn how to improve them. We'll discuss the importance of
understanding other peoples' needs as well as your own needs, and also
how to stand up for your rights in a relationship or/and a social
situation and how to set limits without becoming rude.

In chapter #8 we're going to explore the subject of socializing; to
enjoy a life of good quality, you need the right friends, people to
hung out with, trust them, and like them. Therefore, we are going to
discuss how you could improve your social skills, i.e. decide what
kind of people you'd like to be with, what you should expect from your
social relationships and also how you can initiate new contacts and
acquaintances to expand your social circle.

In chapter #9 we're going to provide you with useful insight into the
subject of confidence. You see, confidence is not a fixed trait of
one's character, but it rather changes in accordance with the events
we come across and the outcomes of our efforts. Also, interestingly,
our interpretations of the various situations along with the
expectations we hold for them, determine whether our confidence
declines or increases. In addition, our confidence is boosted every
time we set goals and achieve them (even small ones) and also, when we
practice positive thinking and positive self-talk.

In chapter #10 we will discuss the subject of time management. You'll
be helped to understand the importance of time and how it affects your
results; also, we'll discuss the subject of common time wasters or
time stealers and how to avoid them. In addition, you'll learn useful
tips to deal with procrastination, the tendency to put off important
activities or/and replace them with low significance ones. This is a
very useful chapter, as it will help you focus your time and energy on
what is important to you so that you become more effective and enjoy
more free personal time for yourself.

In chapter #11 we will discuss the subject of sales and how to improve
your communication with your customers. Although you may have already
read several books or attended relevant seminars on sales techniques,
here we are going to look at the subject from a different perspective;
you'll learn that your effectiveness in sales has to do with the focus
of your attention and the extent to which you can "stay in tune" with
your customers' needs and "in touch" with the way they feel.

In chapter #12 we will present the subject of leadership. Whenever
you assume responsibility in your role, you act as a leader in your
field; thus, leadership skills are essential not only to business
executives and entrepreneurs but also to the "average" person who
wants to play an influential role and motivate others. In this chapter
we'll discuss the characteristics of a leader and also how one can
learn to apply leadership behaviors by practice. Also, you'll learn
how to deal with your people at work (employees etc.) more
effectively, using the coaching paradigm.

In chapter #13 which is titled "dream-dare-do", we're going to discuss
how you can use your imagination creatively by focusing on the
beautiful things in life, thinking of what you can do (rather than of
what you can't), thus coming up with new solutions and a positive
mentality towards things. Also, we'll discuss the other two essential
elements of success: courage ("dare") and action ("do"). We all have
been courageous in certain things or/and certain situations and
motivated to take action; so the whole thing boils down to how
determined we are to succeed; whether _"we give ourselves the
license"_ to succeed and enjoy an abundant life.

In chapter # 14 which is titled "love" we discuss how you should not
always rely on your "head", but turn to your heart for answers
instead. Also, we'll discuss how prosperity and happiness are the
result of the value you add and the love "energy" you give.

In addition, at the end of each chapter, you'll find some very useful
exercises (23 in total), aimed to help you reflect on the subject of
each chapter and come up with your own ideas and findings. Thus, the
main purpose of these exercises is to help you gain a better awareness
of yourself, so that you can introduce changes and improve things if
you feel it would be beneficial.

Thank you for reading this introduction; I wish you to enjoy this
e-book and promise you it really deserves your time and attention!
