My story:

Let me share with you a couple of details about how I came to learn powerful insights and knowledge about human psychology.

Nearly twelve years ago, I faced a situation in my life that most of us are familiar with. I had to make a choice regarding my career, and I was searching for a walk of life that would not only help me learn highly valuable knowledge, but would also give me a chance to interact with people on a daily basis and help them resourcefully.

And when I compared all the competitive fields–like most of us do before we chose a career–the field of medicine seemed to stand out. I realized that it would give me a chance to both challenge myself mentally and help people at the same time.

So I decided to pursue the field of medicine and become a doctor, and after a long, grueling round of exams and interviews, I finally got into a top medical college, only to realize that the field of medicine had just leaped into a new frontier of knowledge. During my first few years I found the medical field to be extremely challenging, unrewarding and tough.

That’s when I made a conscious decision to do some soul-searching. I started visiting nearby bookstores every evening just to read, learn, andget some direction and guidance in my life, because the element of satisfaction was missing.

And after much searching I found the answer…

I realized that fulfillment from career was not from academic excellence but from how we utilize our knowledge to connect with people on a daily basis and do something valuable for them. It was that value that I was able to create for others that added meaning to my life and existence.

 

This created a desire in me to learn more about human psychology and spirituality and pursue personal growth. Over the next eleven years I read many books on these topics and eventually that interest in psychology turned into a passion, and by time I reached my medical residency, I chose to pursue a full time MD in psychiatry.

I was able to meet many experts from all around the world who taught me things about human behavior and psychology, and over the next few years I worked with more than 8,000 people from many different countries, got to sample ideas, test new ideas and really work with a wide range of problems—from the most hardcore psychiatric issues to the simple everyday issues, such as stress, and that’s what helped me develop my professional knowledge.

We were all like that as children, but as we grew up we picked up many concerns and worries that create stress in our life.

 I’ll repeat that: Stress sucks the energy out of you, when a person is under stress, their will power is reduced, it creates self-doubt, they are more likely to they say the wrong things, make the wrong decisions and eventually quit.

So then let’s ask the question:

 Well the average guy says, “Get yourself a cold beer and watch some television and your stress will disappear. If that doesn’t do it, then just take a vacation and you will feel more relaxed.”

Wrong.

The old cliché of working hard and playing hard is not realistic anymore. Escapes like spas, resorts, and vacations, which are glamorized heavily by the media, can only provide a short relief at best and the moment your money runs out, you will have to return to your work and you will face the same reality again.

To make things worse, after the vacation buzz dies down, you will realize that your work has piled up.

And people who depend heavily on their television sets to escape their stress are in for a surprise. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the renowned strategist who studied peak performance and wrote the book Flow, carried out some interesting research which revealed that watching TV or engaging in media entertainment for more than two hours produces a mild level of depression. So if you feel dull after watching late night TV, remember it’s not you, it’s the effect of TV.


So then we come back to our initial question:


How do we get rid of stress from our life and develop a vibrant, energetic and fulfilling lifestyle?

Well the average guy says, “Just ignore all your problems and they will go away.”

Wrong.

The humble idea of just ignoring and hoping that stress would somehow magically disappear is not going to work.

This passive attitude of taking everything in and keeping everything inside causes people to suffer in silence and creates some very serious psychological problems. Ignoring the problem is not the solution.

There’s ample proof for it. The World Health Organization predicts that depression will become the second largest cause of disability within the next eight years.

Now the World Health Organization is the governing health agency for our planet. It monitors health in 61 countries and collects data from doctors all around the world who see and treat patients on a day-to-day basis and it provides leadership on health priorities to all countries around the world.

The WHO has clearly declared that with the way our world is shaping right now, depression will be the second largest health problem that causes disability and work absence within the next eight years.

Those are the cold and hard facts.

So staying silent and passive about stress and hoping it will go away is not going to work anymore. Furthermore, this passive attitude comes with a heavy price tag and leads to more serious problems.



So we come back to ground zero and try the same question one more time:




 How do we get rid of stress from our life and develop a vibrant, energetic and fulfilling lifestyle?  

Well the average guy might say:“Money is the answer to all your problems. Just get rich, it’s going to make all the problems disappear!”



Wrong.

The reality is somewhat different.

Earning money, feeding our families & paying the bills can be stressful, however getting rich doesn’t make the stress disappear.

A recent wealth report published by the wall street journal, which studied the life of lottery winners after they won the lottery, reported that lottery winners were infact more miserable after they won the lottery, because there were many areas of their life that were not in balance and the new money attracted a new set of problems that they were not ready to deal with.

In my practice I’ve seen that the rich have their own set of problems that create stress. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Money does not make all your problems disappear, instead it just gives you a new set of problems to ponder upon!” 

Even though being wealthy may appear seductive, the entire concept is an illusion and it disappears the moment you realize that wealth is only an equalizer. It frees you from worrying about money and puts you on a level platform, but it does not take your soul and satisfaction to the next level.

You need something more powerful to make that shift. 
 





All these details I’m sharing with you are plain, straightforward, no-nonsense facts about what’s really going on in our world right now…

And these phenomena are so real that it’s not even funny. All the facts I’m giving you come from professional organizations that methodically study human behavior and their research findings are always “on the mark”, as they are not interested in sugar-coating the truth.

Module 1: Relaxation Module 



What is it?
         This module helps you relax and develop a peaceful state of mind when situations are outside your control. 

 Examples of stress experienced when situations  are outside your control :

Ex. 1: Let’s say you’ve had some important outdoor party planned for the weekend but the weather turns bad and spoils all your plans—the bad weather is something that’s totally outside your control.

Ex. 2: Let’s say you have an important meeting at your office and you want to reach your office on time, but there’s an unexpected traffic jam on your way to work and you get delayed. The unexpected traffic jam creates stress in your mind and body but the situation that caused the traffic jam is totally outside your control.

Ex. 3: Let’s say you are in a tough competitive situation. You can do your best but the results are out of your control—examples of this could be a competition where there can be only one winner or a tough competitive exam where only a few people are selected each year.

Ex. 4:Let’s say you have a health-related problem. When a person suffers from a serious disease and the doctors are doing everything they can to save the person, but the treatment is NOT working, and the person has to now cope with the situation, that is outside everybody’s control.

Ex. 5: Let’s say you have a bad work environment where you have to put up with an unreasonable boss in a tough economy which offers very few opportunities.

Ex. 6:Let’s say you have a troublesome relationship or marriage where one person is trying hard to save the situation but the other person is unreasonable with their expectations.

You can do everything in the situation but the results are outside your control, and even though you know that there is no point worrying about the situation, you just cannot stop it. We’ve all had situations like this in our life, right?


        The result: 

Whenever you worry or obsess or complain about a situation that is outside your control, you burn mental energy. And chances are that there are situations in your life right now that are totally outside your zone of control but they create stress in your life anyway.

And as you can expect, burning your energy on a problem that is outside your control can have a range of bad consequences on your health and your mind.



This causes a wide range of physical and mental illnesses.

These situations may eventually get corrected, but right now they are outside of your control.

So the key insight here is that a certain percentage of our problems are always outside our control. You may do everything you can within your control to handle these situations, but you may not be able to change the situation, at least not in the immediate future.

So what can you do in such situations?
