Finally!  An application that enables people to know truth from lies, discern truth in the Bible from deceptive or mistaken teachings about the Bible, connect studies, organize by topics, have numerous ways to search for notes in previous studies, manage, protect and share studies-- My Bible Study Application (MBSA), an application that enables Bible study for the 21st Century!

This may be the only product (software or book) available that teaches people "how to" understand what the Bible truly teaches because all other products provide more libraries, references or translations.  This reality can be seen in a preview of Bible study software products available on e-Bay.  These products skip the initial and fundamental step of learning the basics of "how to" understand the Bible and forces people to rely solely upon what others claim or their own presuppositions to truth.  The problem with this approach is-- how does a person distinguish who is right and who is mistaken?
When we plan a vacation to a place we have never been before it is wise to buy a map and spend time reading it first.  Along the way we can seek help from others when we get confused because there are always some areas on the map that don't seem to match the roads.  Or we could skip the map and rely upon just stopping many times along the way and asking people for directions.  However, inevitably we would get some confusing and even incorrect instructions and with no map to verfiy the directions, waste precious vacation time retracing steps, missing fun and wasting money.  This same logic applies to understanding the Bible-- we need to read and study it for ourselves before asking opinions of other people.

In addition to missing the fundamental step of learning "how to" understand the Bible the other study tools do not provide the means to develop, manage and share studies.   What they actually provide are emental study that should be done after study of the Bible.  The combination of the application and study guide provided in MBSA enables every believer to understand the Bible and the means to develop, manage and share studies.  This makes MBSA unique and necessary for every believer who genuinely wants to understand the truth God has revealed to us in the Bible.  The guide provides simple and practical instructions for day-to-day studies (rather than academic) to enable all believers to sort truth from what people wish truth to be, to determine truth for yourself first by understanding what the Bible really teaches.  The MBSA even includes sample studies that will reveal just how the study guide actually enables you to understand what the Bible teaches and provides a starting foundation for constructing your own personal faith in God and Christ as taught in the Bible.  Once you have at least a basic understanding of a topic or passage you can determine truth from lies or incorrect understanding.  And now you are ready to compare it to other forms of truth and other people's understanding of truth in the supplemental tools and other material to clarify, maybe correct and certainly extend your understanding.  Don't settle for a consensus of truth that actaullly leads to confusion and doubt from others because faith that is not personal is neither sustaining nor sustainable!

The truth about knowledge and truth

"If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." John 8:31-32 Jewish Temple Ruins
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you..." Hosea 4:6
All people want or wish God would count our good intentions as some measure of obedience or good.  When we look at creation to learn about God and His ways we find this to be wrong and destructive-- for ourselves and others.  Consider what happens when a man has good intentions to fly so he jumps off a building.  Does he fly or fall and die?  And what happens when a child who has good intentions of eating his veggies and puts his hand into the pot of steaming veggies?  Does his good intentions count so he is not burned?  The laws God placed in nature reveal to all of us that God does not bend His commands and ways to our wishful thinking.  If we don't want to get burned, we learn how to properly handle fire and hot things.  If we don't want to die from falling from high places we take precautions to avoid it.  If we want God to help rather than punish us then we must learn the truth of what He demands and what He promises and then do them according to the instructions.

People do not miss Heaven and make poor choices because they lack knowledge, but for rejecting what they know in exchange for what they want to be truth.  All people have great difficulty with maintaining objectivity.  All people have at least some difficulty in understanding and accepting what the Bible truly teaches and commands.  For most people the difficulty in understanding and accepting the truth is due to the ever present cloud of predispostion to truth.  Predispostions come from personal desires, personalities, culture, heritage, education and personal experiences.  Predispositons can hinder or even prevent understanding truth, causing us to exchange truth for what we wish to be truth.

The Need for MBSA

For generations the primary emphasis on Bible study has been on reading what others have written about what the Bible teaches.  This almost inevitably leads to trying to determine our faith based upon what other people say about the Bible rather than on constructing our system of faith based upon what the Bible truly teaches. Our focus should be what the Bible actually teaches concerning what is right and wrong, what is sin and what is righteous and why or why not God will let us into Heaven.  If we do not understand the fundamentals of how to read, study and interpret the Bible, how can we determine which writers or preachers speak truth?  The only answer is either we guess or choose what appeals to us.

Many people fail to consider a very important truth about what other people believe-- what others believed or claimed will not matter for us when we stand before God and Christ!  Only what we have understood and done with the life given to us to live in obedience to His calling will have any relevance when we stand before God and Christ.
Matthew 7:21-23 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Faither who is in heaven will enter.  Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perfom many miracles?'  And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' "
Many people think they are obedient, but are in fact practicing sin and will not enter Heaven.

Not only pastors and teachers are to understand the Bible, we all are commanded to be diligent in understanding truth so we can be obedient.
II Timothy 2:15 to "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." Philippians 2:12 "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling."
There are numerous tools for help to understand the Bible on the web.  As many parents do, in December 2010 I wanted to help my daughter learn how to better understand the Bible.  I searched for a how to guide with the hope I could find one accompanied by a software program to aid in developing the notes so they could be easily found later and not get lost or forgotten and become virtually useless as mine always had.  My search came up empty.  My premise for this criteria was the Bible can be confusing and even offensive to all of us when we honestly seek to understand it.  All of us face the frequent temptation to disregard portions we don't like or minimize other sections as irrelevant for today.  The confusion within Christian denominations and the desertion of youth leaving our churches testifies we really need a how to guide in order to objectively understand the Bible.  For those who want to truly understand what the Bible does or does not teach, giving them more tools like more Bible translations, commentaries, and other books is like giving another violin to a child who is struggling with learning how to play the one he already has.  Such Bible tools are good, but they do not provide the very fundamental instructions of how to correctly and objectively understand what the Bible truly teaches in our own reading and study and how to sort out truth from all the conflicting claims of truth coming from all around us.

Christians are to follow Christ.  How did Christ model living and making decisions?  Almost all the examples in the Bible show He used His understanding of the Scriptures He had available at that time; The Law (writings of Moses), The Prophets and The Writings (history and wisdom); together essentially what we have in the Old Testament.  He did not quote what some man wrote or said.  He quoted or made some reference to the Scriptures.  He summed up His own life objective and accomplishment in Luke 24:44 "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."  His mission in life was to fulfill Scripture.  In order to fulfill, He first had to study and understand.  To truly follow Christ, we must follow His example.
Luke 2:40 "The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." ; Luke 2:52 "And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." Hebrews 5:8 "Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered."
After contemplation and prayer, I became convinced all believers need a tool to provide those two major needs;  1) teach people how to better understand and study the Bible and 2) to enable them to develop notes from studies in an organized way so that any thought could later be located quickly and easily and so all gained understanding could remain useful and relevant. While many church leaders have been taught how to interpret the Bible, most have forgotten and/or have lost the notes and books from those courses.  And almost certainly the courses and books were intended for acedemic purposes rather than personal, day to day living types of study.  And there simply is not a tool anywhere else that provides the need for developing, managing and sharing notes from studies.  Now, through the benefits provided in MyBibleStudyApp (MBSA), every believer has the means to meet these basic needs for developing a personal faith and applying his faith to daily decisions that so each can fulfill Scripture in the path that God leads.

MBSA was developed in the belief that every person will inevitably benefit from learning how to understand the Bible and separate truth from lies cloaked in appearance of truth and to construct a personal faith in God and Jesus Christ based upon the Bible and in the benefit of being able to organize, link, share and protect what they have learned.  In this belief, the price for MBSA is set so that every person can afford it; only $12.99!

Objectives of MBSA

The guide within MBSA is intended to be non-denominational.  The primary objective is to learn how to determine what the Bible truly teaches rather than tell users what they should believe or what others believe.  Note, not to determine it by themselves, but for themselves.  Everyone needs instructions and input from many people and sources to arrive at a correct understanding of the truth.  This guide is not a replacement of any of these sources.  It is an aid to make better use of those sources and how to sort the objective truth from the subjective ideas or beliefs that are not truth by testing everything against Scripture and validating the conclusion by comparison to other known truths.  When someone comes to a decision to follow Jesus, giving them a Bible and telling them to read it is similar to the famous quote by Yogi Bear (a baseball player and coach with a great sense of humor), "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."  Some important instructions are missing or would at least be helpful.  How many "forks in the road" are in the Bible for a new believer? How many forks do we encounter in a lifetime?  Trial and error just will not do!  Left to our own whims and ways, we have today just what should be expected: confusion, dissension, and desertion.  Hopefully, this study guide can be a tool to help fill that gap of instructions.

In addition to the guide, the MBSA program provides the means to be able to manage, share, and use all we learn from our Bible devotions and studies.  By following the guide and using the program you can construct a reliable and personal faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  You can grow in understanding of correct perspectives, realistic expectations in life, God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and yourself.  Decisions will become more reasoned and biblical.  Your convictions will grow stronger and beliefs more certain.  One of the important concepts of this guide and application is that faith that is not personal is neither sustaining nor sustainable.  Every person needs to come to a full persuasion and conviction of what he or she believes or that faith will not be sufficient to guide and sustain him in troubled times.
Philippians 2:12 "So then, beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling." Romans 14:5 "Who are you to judge the servant of another?  To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.  One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike.  Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind."  And verse 12 "So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God."
The current version of MBSA provides teaching suitable for mid-teens and older who have basic understanding of the Bible and want to move to a deeper understanding and commitment to service.  It offers the most benefit to those who want to do in-depth studies of the Bible and are committed to spending several hours a week in study in addition to devotions or reading the Bible-- generally leaders and more mature believers.  Every person has a measure of faith as described in Romans 12 and so each will vary in the level and form of study and reading.  In addition to the truth that God gives to each person variable measures of faith, we are all in various stages of growth and circumstances in life so the need and opportunity to read and study will also vary.

Hopefully, another version of the documents will be completed soon for those will read the Bible daily and do occassional and less intense studies.  This version will probably better suit most people and provide the ideal tool for parents and pastors to give youth beginning to read the Bible to construct their personal understanding of faith in God and Christ.

Summary Benefit of MBSA

To complete the guide and application, MBSA also gives what no other supposed "how to" guide in book or software does-- samples of studies of numerous major doctrines to show how the guide provides keys to correctly understanding the Bible that collectively, has never been provided before.  These same samples show the benefits provided in the application to link important points to other points such as points shared in salvation by faith to sanctification (learning to walk in newness of life on our journey home) or points on points of God's purpose for our lives or God's will and commands linked to points about making decisions based upon the Bible.  In addition to being samples, they are primers for beginning the construction of your own personal faith in Christ based upon the Bible.  These samples can be viewed on the  [MBSA Outline](MBSAOutline.aspx) page.  Here you will find brief descriptions of each of the documents that includes some truths made known in the study with a summary of the anticipated benefits of the guide and sample documents.

The MBSA enables every believer to take what otherwise would be a glob of information from studies and devotions and create an ordered and manageable system of information so that all studies remain useful and relevant.  During the Great Reformation there was much emphasis upon rote memorization.  Most people then could not read and write and the Bible was largely not availabe to the common person.  Additionally, there was little contact with differing beliefs and ideas so what could be memorized was sufficient.  Today, all of these circumstances have changed.  We are deluged with differing ideas and beliefs.  Just as in other areas of life, we must adjust and learn to manage much information so that we can access it when needed.  MBSA enables this adaptation to the needs of our current generation to dispel confusion and doubt, tear down strongholds of false teachings and build up the Body of Christ.

Get started today making tracks for yourself and for others of what is truth and what is lies.  Begin today learning to better distinguish what God commands and what some only claim He has said.  Begin today developing notes that can be honed and readily located when needed.  Begin today doing more good than was possible before in building up not only your own understanding and faith but also the Body of Christ.
