More than half of the individuals (56%) in the U.S used the internet everyday or almost every day to find goods and services. Two out of three individuals used the internet at least once a week (68%) to find products and services. In certain states individuals who used the internet regularly were above 80%.
In 2011,
e-commerce grew faster on a year-to-year percent change basis than total economic activity.
U.S. retail
e-commerce sales reached $169 billion in 2010, up from a revised $145 billion in 2009—an annual gain of 16.3 percent.
From 2002 to 2010, retail e-sales increased at an average annual growth rate of 17.9 percent, compared with 2.6 percent for total retail sales.
Newspaper circulation from 2003 to 2009 has declined 43%.
In 2009 Newspapers saw ad revenue fall 26% during the year, which brings the total loss over the last three years to 43%.
Local television ad revenue fell 22% in 2009; triple the decline the year before. Radio also was off 22%. Magazine ad revenue dropped 17%, network TV 8% (and news alone more due to online news).
Yellow Pages print directory usage has decreased by 61% between 2002 and 2010. Most households have the yellow pages, but very few people are using it to find goods and services.
