Who Is The BaseWinner?
The personality known as “The Basewinner” is actually a real person. My name is Mark Borchard and I am 40 years old. I am involved in two other successful businesses, have a background in Economics, and have spent about 1,500 hours annually for the past 10 years analyzing individual MLB games and developing MLB models and data sets.
I made my first baseball bets during the 1990 World Series. I bet on the A’s in all four games as heavy faves. They were swept and I was smoked. I have learned so much since then.
Since that time, I have learned the hard way many of the pitfalls of this industry. I signed up as a client with several scam artists early on in my betting career. I walked out in disgust after working two days for a highly known tout, which turned out to be eye opening experience behind the scenes on how the operation was run, and eventually became an inflection point in my career.
These experiences fired me up to handicap properly. Using my background in economics and statistics, I went to work, with the goal of building an advanced prediction algorithm, using statistics and information not available to most handicappers. Advancing on the work of Bill James, the Runs Created formula became a pivotal stepping stone on which to build a long term, consistently winning system. I also decided that if I ever got good enough to the point where my information was valuable, I would let others access this information for a reasonable amount. I would love nothing more than to see this become a respectable industry, on the same level as the stock market. This is my contribution to the effort. 100% transparency, no tricks, consistent long term profits.
Recent history, in the form of the yearly results, indicates I have built one of the best data sets of any MLB handicapper in the business. Every day is a learning process, but I feel I am one of the most knowledgeable people in the world when it comes to analyzing MLB value.
