\"DR. HOLLIS' WORK, WHICH CENTERS ON CURRENT UNLAWFUL DISCRIMINATION
SUFFERED BY WOMEN FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, SUGGESTS THAT
DISCRIMINATION IS NOT CONFINED TO MINORITY STATUS.\"
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a federal government response to the
denial of economic suppression of certain groups in American society.
It was recognized that the adverse treatment suffered by certain
groups was so severe that they needed protection. Among the groups
covered are race, sex, religion, national origin and color. These
groups are known as protected classes. More than forty-six years
later, Leah Hollis provides us with verification that opportunity in
American society continues to be adversely affected by one's protected
class membership. The US census indicates that there are more women
than men in these United States. Dr. Hollis' work, which centers on
current unlawful discrimination suffered by women from diverse
backgrounds, suggests that discrimination is not confined to minority
status. UNEQUAL OPPORTUNITY indicates that we still have a great
distance to travel on the road to equality.

As a Diversity Trainer, I use UNEQUAL OPPORTUNITY as a guidebook to
focus on managing diversity with organizational internal changes. The
easy reading guide illustrates that a working environment can be
problematic for women. However, it also provides the reader the
opportunity to comprehend the magnitude of the inequality and project
a possible approach that would generate a diversity friendly
workplace.

Diversity Trainer I gave this to a friend of mine who was struggling
at work. She was able to make some critical decisions on how to stop
harassment between two staff members she supervised. There were two
chapters in particular about discrimination and hiring that were of
particular use. She saved her organization lots of money AND saved
herself lots of grief. Since then, I bought my own copy since I have a
new boss and want to know my rights as he is changing things here.

\"THIS IS A BOOK FOR EVERYONE, FROM VICTIMS OF DISCRIMINATION WHO WANT
TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OPTIONS, TO EMPLOYERS WHO WANT A HELPFUL
DISCUSSION TOOL TO MAKE THE POINT THAT, UNFORTUNATELY, DISCRIMINATION
IS STILL WITH US AND STILL VERY REAL!\"
Before discrimination cases become court cases, they are stories,
stories of the hopes and dreams of ordinary people, and of how
discriminatory behavior in the workplace can cause injury that is deep
and profound. In UNEQUAL OPPORTUNITY, Leah takes the time to tell the
stories of real victims of discrimination, bringing life to the
stories behind dull court records in an imaginative and compelling
way. This is a book for everyone, from victims of discrimination who
want to learn more about options, to employers who want a helpful
discussion tool to make the point that, unfortunately, discrimination
is still with us and still very real.

I didn't realize how harassment really hurt me at work. I was bullied
all the time at work. My boss was SOOO ready to fire me and I felt
like a sitting duck. I read this and found how to take smart action
and save my job.

Customer Service We had an age discrimination case brewing. Dr.
Hollis brought some interesting points I had not considered. I was
able to stop the problem before it got any bigger. We had a woman who
was ready to go to her attorney and a young staff who was making the
problem even worse. Our organization could have been in a costly and
time consuming law suit. I had to thank Dr. Hollis personally for
writing this book.
