"The confined spaces test was a challenge, as was the pressure involved with just getting the exercises right, right technique, etc."

This book was written by a professional fire fighter with a background in business management and human resources. The author would like to thank psychologist Jessie Hurst for her contributions on the psychometric testing and personality testing process and human resources specialist Daniel Lawler for his advice on better job interviews.

Many thanks to the professional fire fighters around the United States who helped in the production of this training manual.

Jo Matthews
Professional Firefighter Since becoming a professional firefighter, I have heard so many stories from guys interested in trying out for selection and not knowing where to start, or from guys who have tried time and time again without being invited back to the next stage of selection. They are frustrated because they don't know where they are letting themselves down.

The thing that continually stands out for me, is that these people, even though they could make great firefighters, don't understand the testing process and don't realise the level of preparation required to make it through.

This book will open your eyes to the tests used and how to best familiarise yourself with them.

Most importantly, remember the 5 P's:

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance!

Life is too short to spend it doing something you hate. If a job in the fire brigades is something that will bring you long lasting fulfilment, get out there and have a go!
