TECHNIQUES FOR TRANQUILITY

Do you suffer from constant anxiety?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After years of struggling with anxiety, I was at the end of my tether. I couldn't relax. I couldn't sleep. My brain wanted to keep going at 100mph. I was unpleasant to be around as I resented all the people and circumstances in my life. I blamed everyone else for my anxiety. I was desperate; I had to find a cure. And I didn't give up until I did.

Does this sound like you?
And is this how you want to carry on living?
Or do you want to find a cure too?
Around this time, a number of my friends were being prescribed antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft or Seroxat by their doctors, because they couldn’t cope with everything that life was throwing at them. I was adamant that I didn’t want to go down this route, because I could see a real problem with it, something that worried me a lot.
What worried me was this: these friends of mine were not mentally ill; they did not have severe anxiety disorders; I didn’t even think they were depressed. I’ve seen depression, real, debilitating, can’t-get-up-in-the-morning, severe depression. That needs to be treated by a physician. And this is not what my friends nor I had!
They were simply struggling to deal with situations that seemed strikingly common; relationship issues, high demands at work, money worries, quality of life problems. Often they were just dealing with information overload. Yet they were routinely being given antidepressants.
One of my best friends even tried to talk me into taking them too, because she was on them. I got cross with her and said I was intelligent enough to figure it out myself without the help of chemicals. Ouch! What a thing to say to a good friend, but that’s who I was back then. I really had reached an all time low.

My name is Monica Gilchrist.
And I decided enough was enough.

Over the next few years I dedicated myself to researching how to make myself feel better. I’m an ordinary person, I left school at 16 with few qualifications, and I had no idea how to go about this or where to start. But I was very determined.
The one thing I could do well was read, so I immersed myself in all kinds of books, hoping to find a magic solution and a ‘cure’ for my anxiety. What I found was that I was good enough at research to get myself a psychology degree along the way, and also that there is no such thing as a magic solution…..
…but I found a solution nonetheless!
I’ll be honest now and admit that when I started on this journey, I wasn’t thinking of sharing what I found; I was only doing it for me. It wasn’t until I delved deeper into the subject that I began to feel that I should pass it along to others.
I changed my mind because the stuff I learned along the way concerned me. I found that anxiety is big business for the pharmaceutical companies, with anti-depressants third on the list of best-selling drugs in the USA ($10 billion sales per year). The cynic in me wondered how much motivation there was for them to produce non-addictive antidepressants. If their patients were to get better, the drug companies would take a big hit financially.
There have also been accusations that the results of clinical tests were being selectively published. The trial results weren’t published if the antidepressants were not shown to be more effective than the placebo they were tested alongside. And, except in the most severely depressed patients, often they weren’t more effective.
Which led me to believe that lots of other people just like my friends are taking medication that they possibly don’t need to take; they’d get the same effect from a sugar pill. Whether or not all this is true, it just made me more convinced not to go that route. To leave the medication for the clinically depressed and to address the anxiety instead.
As more and more scientists who study depression
and the drugs that treat it are concluding,
[…] antidepressants are basically expensive Tic Tacs.
Sharon Begley of Newsweek (January 2010)
I was not convinced that the medical profession was approaching the increase in anxiety in the best way either. I know that the vast majority of doctors work very hard and achieve amazing things and are truly caring people, and that they swear an oath to always practice medicine ethically. But doctors are so overworked and under such pressure to prescribe the drugs. I wondered if it was quicker and easier for them to recommend antidepressants to the distressed patient sitting in front of them, rather than exploring alternative therapies.
I also figured out that the friends who struggled with anxiety in the same way that I did were all deep thinkers, analyzers if you like. They were certainly all intelligent people. So I began to wonder whether it was possible to ‘think’ your way back from the edge. To use those overactive brain cells in a positive way to solve the anxiety problem.

If the idea of a ‘thinking’ solution puts you off in any way, I have to ask you:
"DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE FREE OF ANXIETY?"
If you are still not sure….
…let me ask you this; do you ever experience any of the following?
Overwhelming anxiety or unmanageable stress Feelings of shame Constant conflict with others Excessive anger Social shyness Guilty feelings
Panic attacks A phobia or phobias of any kind Overeating or undereating Compulsive Behavior or OCD Avoidance behavior such as drinking or taking illegal drugs

If you do, I may be able to help you, because anxiety underlies all of these conditions, or feelings, or behaviors. And the list could be much longer. None of these things happen to you overnight; they are the gradual accumulation of layer upon layer of anxiety. Start to relieve the underlying anxiety and you will ease the condition. And if you want to, you can begin to do this today.
I know that I was willing to consider any method that would help me to be free from the curse of this constant anxiety. I would have pursued any course of action that didn’t involve expensive therapy, medication, or unquestioning acceptance. I was willing to give my time and effort. I pursued it mercilessly.
The result of that tenacity? I found another way and can now maintain tranquility most of the time and under most circumstances!
And I know that if I can do it, you can do it too.
I don’t pretend that I invented something new, or came up with a new answer; I didn’t. No hoodwinking, no exaggeration, no fibbing, just the truth. All I did was read an awful lot, collected together the best ideas and techniques from the wisest people across the ages, and summarized them in book form to pass them along to you.
Note: I am not medically trained and I do not give medical advice,
so never stop taking medication unless advised to do so by your physician.
In the book I provide insight into the reasons why we feel anxiety in the first place. What exactly it is about human nature that makes us involuntarily break out into a sweat or tremble uncontrollably when faced with a challenging but not deadly situation? You would be surprised if I told you just how many voluntary behaviors are also linked to anxiety. Ultimately my aim is to convince you that you have much more control over anxiety than you realize.
The knowledge I have acquired and want to pass on to you is powerful. I selected the techniques in the book to use myself. They come from a variety of sources, from the ancient teachers of philosophy, through to the modern thinkers in psychology. The whole premise of the book is based upon Descartes’ notion that we exist because we can think. You brain is very potent.
The latest estimates of your brain power are far, far greater than any number you could ever imagine. The number of connections in your brain massively exceeds the number of atoms in the universe. Your intellect can solve this problem, if only it would stop worrying about the trivial stuff. If only you would just give it a chance.
The next question I have for you relates to $$$s!
That probably got your attention. Do you religiously play the Lottery? Would a large sum of money provide the solution to your stress and anxiety? My book will show you that you should think again! It explores the ways that we value people and objects, the purpose of cash, and proposes techniques you can use to help you appreciate things in a less materialistic way.
It will also encourage you to think about why you do things in the way that you do. Do you know what you are aiming for? Is there a purpose to it? After reading this book, you will have all the techniques that you need to set realistic, purposeful objectives for yourself, and to greatly improve your chances of achieving them.
Perhaps the most powerful part of the book is the part that demonstrates to you that you DO have control over your situations and emotions. All of us feel helpless at some point in our lives, when it feels like things are happening to us that cause us to be stressed or anxious. The book teaches us that things stress us because we allow them to. And it teaches us that there is an alternative: we can choose tranquility.
For just $20, less than the price of a pair of shoes or a tankful of gas, you will have access to the techniques that I use on a daily basis to manage my own anxiety. You will be able to practice and adapt those techniques until you find what you need to help you to overcome your own stress and anxiety. You will finally do it when you believe that you can.
Be wary of any solution that promises to stop your anxiety completely. It’s impossible. I still have off days, when I’m under the weather or I can’t get on top of things and the anxiety takes a hold. I have weepy days and angry days but they are so much less intense, and occur far less frequently. I just refer to the book (I’m so glad I wrote it all down) and inwardly talk myself out of my anxiety.
I’m not going to include references, and lots of congratulatory emails here, from people who have seen the book. I’m no saleswoman and I am not going to pressure you to buy with promises of a perfect life. It would be cruel to do that to a stressed or anxious person, and I’d rather be trying to help you. I’ve provided a free preview so that you can take a look at the first couple of chapters, then it’s up to you. You’re a grown up, you can decide for yourself. Why not take a look now below?
