If your son can't read, has difficulty reading or won't even try to
read, and you feel as if you've tried absolutely everything you can to
help him...take a deep breath and relax. This book solves all these
problems. You can finally stop worrying and start taking _effective_
action that will get you _real_ results.

Boys & Reading shows you how to get your son motivated, not just to
read but to improve at reading. Some of the strategies used in this
book, such as mini-goal setting, will help him in other life contexts
too.

Let me put your mind at ease about something you probably have
experienced and don't want to repeat. You won't be dragging your son
in to sit down and read. You won't be arguing about reading or dealing
with sulks or tantrums whilst trying to help him read. Far from it.
That is the least likely way to achieve success. You'll approach the
topic of his reading slowly, carefully and in a way that guarantees a
positive response.

It will take some preparation on your part before your son will start
seeing reading in a positive light, and this has to come first. When
he becomes interested, you'll help him set mini-goals in reading, and
there are activities to do together that will ensure he reaches them.

You are going to help him to become a self-motivated learner as well
as a good reader. I have used this method effectively and have proven
that it works in the most challenging cases.

Even the most disengaged boys become motivated and start improving
rapidly when they can interact with someone they trust, someone who
encourages them without putting them under stress, and who understands
how to scaffold their learning. The most important initial strategy is
to remove the stress because boys are particularly sensitive to it.
This is where Boys & Reading begins.

Many parents of K-10 mainstream, education support and home-school
students are concerned about their children's reading skills and seek
help. There are many excellent resources available both on and
offline, but it's how they're used and how parents interact with their
children that determines success. There are many misconceptions about
this 'how to'.

Boys & Reading gives you what I consider to be the best 'how to'. The
approach in this book comes from my experience as a literacy
specialist, and is not available anywhere else. It's based not only on
my own success with these strategies, but also on the success of the
parents I know who have used them.

You don't need to be a trained expert to get your son reading. All
the information you need is here. You'll be letting go of old beliefs
about teaching reading and opening up to an approach that seems
different and much easier. I know you'll find it liberating and
enjoyable. The steps in Boys & Reading are easy to follow and will
give you the results you have been hoping for.
