AN INTRODUCTION TO LEARN SPANISH

Hi my name is Clara Camero.

For the pass fifteen years, I have taught Spanish for English speakers at universities, colleges and in Community Services programs.  Interacting with students in and outside the classroom, sharing my love for countries and their cultures, and opening doors to new opportunities define my life-passion for teaching.

I want to invite you to learn Spanish online, with a program that makes language learning exciting, relevant, and effective.  My goal is to raise the teaching and learning of Spanish language to a higher level, and help people  who interact with the community like communicators, reporters in radio and television, singers, business, health workers, social services, advisors and school teachers, who need to Spanish communicative approach to language teaching  and learning in their classes with native Spanish students.

I encourage my students to communicatively interact not only with the written and  spoken language, but also with each others as a participatory members of the language learning experience. The interdisciplinary perspectives of  language and culture enrich my courses and provide my students with tools that enhance their cultural competence.

My teaching experience in a variety of academic and community environments has made me more sensitive to and conscious of some of the features of the student population, such as a multi-ethnicity, bilingual and diverse cultural/social backgrounds.

My program is based on the following beliefs:
It is essential to prepare the students for a world in which learning another language is a necessity, not a luxury. Language learning should be fun and rewarding, and all students should have the tools necessary for achieving success. Students who experience success learning a language will be more likely to continue their language studies.
 Methodology:

I interact with my students using all the aspects of the language: listening, speaking, reading and writing, and instructional materials to support the language learning. The lessons are designed to foster students’ confidence in their hability to learn Spanish and encourage them to use the language actively from the very first day of class, without  memorizing grammar rules. At least one grammar point per lesson is introduced with a short dialogue that shows the grammar used in a natural conversation setting, in a natural context, making the upcoming grammar presentation more meaningful and understandable.

 Organization of the lessons:
All the lessons are conducted in Spanish. The respective translation in English is visible, but not heard. Realistic dialogues model natural conversation in Spanish, using key vocabulary and grammatical structures that you need in your daily activity with  Spanish-speaking people. The vocabulary uses active words and expressions presented  in the dialogue and categorizes them by part of speech.  The cognates head up the vocabulary so  that students can  identify these terms. A comprehensive review appears after each lesson as a Práctica. The exercises check students’ cumulative  knowledge and use of active vocabulary. The audio-video helps students practice sounds, rhythm, intonation and accentuation. It  is also possible to interact with me by using the Skype for an individual conversation.
