This workout uses Animal Movements, which are just like they sound -
movements and forms that mimic or resemble different animals. While
some forms physically resemble the animal, others are more inspired by
the rhythm or nuance of an animal. As the movements are mastered,

ARE ANIMAL MOVEMENT EXERCISES SOMETHING NEW?
Using animal forms for exercise and vitality dates back as early as
186 BCE, when the famous Chinese physician Hua Tuo promoted “Five
Animal Frolics” which were the Tiger, Deer, Bear, Monkey and Bird.
(Hua Tuo still appeared in the prime of his life when he was almost

WHO IS MIKE FITCH?
Mike is a career strength coach, nutritional consultant and post
rehab specialist with 12 years experience as a fitness professional.
His training style reflects his background in a diverse range of
fitness disciplines, fusing together training styles such as Olympic
lifts, kettle bell training, sports-specific and speed-agility
training, and specialized training for post-rehab and corrective
exercise clients. He has also spent hundreds of hours as an educator
for one of the biggest fitness clubs in the industry, teaching

amazing results through an integrated mix of fitness, nutrition, and

HOW DID MIKE COME TO BODYWEIGHT TRAINING AND ANIMAL MOVEMENTS?
Mike will be the first tell you that he isn’t the inventor of
animal movement exercise - in fact, it’s just the opposite. Rather,
he’s been a student of it, and bodyweight training in general, and
is now sharing what he’s learned with others. His goal is to bring
together all bodyweight enthusiasts in an attempt to build a tight
community that supports and inspires each other. And animal movement
training is a great way to do that!
“I’ve always been interested in non-traditional methods of
exercise, but was inspired to seek out new ventures when I was just no
longer feeling challenged in my day-to-day routine. So, I put down the
dumbbells and began using my own bodyweight for strength training. I
tried gymnastics classes, adding tumbling, acrobatics, and
hand-balancing to my workout routine. I was so impressed with the
results I was seeing in my body that I kept exploring more
non-traditional disciplines like Parkour, Capoeira and breakdancing.
While each of these disciplines has its unique strengths, they also
complement each other and share even more in common. Each uses
bodyweight as its basis for building muscle and skills. I’ve been
able to draw upon my expertise and personal experience to synthesize
the best components of each into my own bodyweight training program.
I’ve found that animal movements in particular translate really well
into nearly every style of bodyweight training, and so it was natural

WHY ARE ANIMAL MOVEMENTS SO GREAT?
* ENHANCED WORKOUTS: No matter what style of training you prefer,
your efforts will be improved upon by increasing your flexibility,
agility, strength, power, endurance, coordination and speed. The

training is that it is multi-planar, meaning that you are moving
through multiple planes of motion, rather than in just one like when
running in a straight line. Thus, the carryover from Animal Movements

an actual sport, you are teaching your body to coordinate its
movements as an entire unit rather than compartmentalizing.
* CARDIOVASCULAR TRAINING: You can choose how to structure your
Animal Flow to achieve different cardio response. You can perform some
explosive forms and switches that are very intense and challenge your
anaerobic energy system, followed by shorter rest periods. For longer
more aerobic results you can link together less demanding forms and
switches that can be maintained for longer durations at lower
intensities!
* STABILITY: All of the animal movements place the body in a
“four Pillar” position which is with hands and feet in contact
with the ground. This position allows all of the stabilization systems
to be on and coordinating between each other. Everything from the
writsts, shoulders, spine, hips and ankles. There is no joint that is
left unchallenged!
* MOBILITY/FLEXIBILITY: One of the elements that’s most often
overlooked in training programs is joint mobility or flexibility. The
animal flow workout pushes the body through movements that result in
increased mobility and flexibility naturally. Stretching through
movement, not isolation.
