HEALING VS CURING

$13.95 FOR THE PRINT BOOK

Medicine is a “curing” art, with a different objective than a
“healing” art. Dorland’s Medical Dictionary defines
“medicine” as the art and science of the diagnosis and treatment
of disease by any drug or non-surgical remedy. The goal of medical
intervention is to reduce or eliminate symptoms of body dysfunction or
malfunction (sickness or disease) so that we feel our symptoms or
condition less. The goal of healing is to bring about a closer
holistic connection in mind, body and spirit so that we can feel our
life experience more. There is no cure for healing, because curing and
healing are separate and distinct paradigms.

In order to heal, we must be willing to feel the emotions that are
the underlying cause of the sickness. Physical symptoms are not the
cause of these emotions, but rather the effect of not feeling them.
They are simply the body’s way of getting our attention to bring
about the necessary change to heal holistically.

The Holographic Universe

Author Talbot writes that ". . . there is evidence to suggest that
our world and everything in it. . . are also only ghostly images,
projections from a level of reality so beyond our own it is literally
beyond both space and time." Hence, the title of his book. Beginning
with the work of physicist David Bohm and neurophysiologist Karl
Pribram, both of whom independently arrived at holographic theories or
models of the universe, Talbot explains in clear terms the theory and
physics of holography and its application, both in science and in
explanation of the paranormal and psychic. His theory of reality
accommodates this latest thinking in physics as well as many
unresolved mind-body questions. This well-written and fascinating
study is recommended for science collections.

THE 4 AGREEMENTS

Ruiz's explanations of Toltec-based cosmography got a major boost
recently when publishing pooh-bah Oprah Winfrey mentioned his work on
her TV show. Ruiz, whose workshop teachings are distilled here, was
born into a Mexican family of traditional healers, became a surgeon in
adulthood, then underwent a near-death experience that made him
reexamine his life, his beliefs. Like the popular works of the late
Carlos Castaneda, Ruiz's teachings focus on dreams and visions.
"Dreaming," Ruiz argues, "is the main function of the mind." A series
of four "agreements" are detailed, which make up a larger picture of
unconditional human faith. Despite the New Age- sounding language,
Ruiz is refreshingly clear in the presentation of his ideas. Reading
aloud, actor Coyote sounds every bit the enthusiastic old hippie,
genuinely excited by the concepts he is spinning. Based on the 1997
Amber-Allen edition.
