1872 is a novel set in fictional Grand Savanne, an 1800s Kansas cow town. It is a story about Western expansion, anarchy on windswept plains populated with buffalo and Texas longhorns, Cheyenne, cowboys, settlers, railroadmen, shysters, cavalry, entrepreneurs, prostitutes, adventurers and outlaws. Amid this backdrop a young man struggles with redemption, manhood, young love, a divine and destructive gift, and reconciliation with a father he believed dead.
