95% Of Runners Tested, Experienced Decreased Heart Function!

According to a study presented on October 25th at the _Canadian
Cardiovascular Congress 2010_, in Montreal, by cardiologist Prof. Eric
Larose of _Laval University_ (Québec City):

“19 OUT OF THE 20 RUNNERS tested immediately after a race,
recorded DECREASED HEART FUNCTION IN MORE THAN HALF OF THE HEART
MUSCLE IN THE LEFT VENTRICLE, (THE HEART’S MAIN PUMPING CHAMBER)
which may be due to INCREASED INFLAMMATION AND REDUCED BLOOD FLOW
THROUGH THESE SEGMENTS”

What that means is that all of the runners tested, EXCEPT THE FITTEST
ONE, experienced a major drop in heart function!

You can probably guess what that means – cardiac arrest or HEART
ATTACK!  Here’s the proof:

Half Of The Runners Tested Had An Indication Of A Heart Attack!

50% of the above-mentioned runners had an INCREASE OF A PROTEIN
CALLED _TROPONIN_, which can INDICATE THAT THE PERSON HAS SUFFERED A
HEART ATTACK

Marathon Runners Have More Clogged Arteries And Higher Cholesterol
Levels Than Non-Runners!

A study by Drs. Jonathan and Robert Schwartz revealed at the
_American College of Cardiology (ACC) 2010 Scientific Sessions_ shows
that compared to a control group:

* MARATHONERS HAD SIGNIFICANTLY MORE calcified coronary plaque 
(FATTY DEPOSITS IN THE ARTERIES), approx. 105mm3  more, THAN
NON-RUNNERS;
* MARATHON RUNNERS’ LEVELS OF _CHOLESTEROL_ were approximately
75mg per 100ml (75mg/dL) _HIGHER _ THAN NON-RUNNERS!

At this stage, if a blood clot had to flake away from the wall of the
artery, it could easily block the entire blood vessel, immediately
preventing blood flow and RESULTING IN CARDIAC ARREST…

Now have a read of the Third Study… Marathoners Have A Greater
Risk Of Stroke (Aorta stiffness)
Than Non-Runners!

Also presented during the _ACC 2010_ conference mentioned previously,
Dr. Despina Kardara of the _Athens Medical School _(Greece), shows
that STIFFNESS OF THE AORTA (THE MAIN ARTERY OF THE HEART) IN
MARATHONERS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER COMPARED TO A CONTROL GROUP that
did not participate in endurance training.

Dr. Stephane Laurent of the _Hospital Georges Pompidou_, Paris warns
of the direct relationship between the degree of aortic stiffness and
the incidence of stroke In short…

Like I said earlier – In no way are these studies meant to stop you
from running altogether…

What it does cause to happen is for runners like you, to become
better informed about what’s happening to your body during
long-distance training, and with that knowledge comes immense power
too!

Being able to _manage the risks_ is the key to enjoying a long and
healthy running journey.  In order to do so, you have to understand
them fully:

Doctors reveal that long-distance running can possibly increase
your risk of HEART FAILURE, heart attacks, _strokes_ and could
possibly result in a fatality

Doctors find  that the amount of heart damage caused, and the
chances of getting a stroke depends directly on the fitness level of
the runner

The DAMAGE IS REVERSIBLE, but only after about 3 months, and only
if training STOPS!

By now you’re probably starting to get an idea of why marathon
training has such a forceful impact on one’s body and heart –
marathon training is a form of grueling endurance training, and
running a marathon pushes and strains the human body to it’s limits
of endurance!  That’s a fact…

Your Fitness Level!

In presenting his findings at the _Canadian Cardiovascular Congress
2010_, Dr. Eric Larose stated that THE NUMBER OF DAMAGED SECTIONS IN
THE HEART MUSCLES OF RUNNERS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THEIR LEVEL OF
FITNESS – “Runners who are _LESS WELL-TRAINED (AND) LESS
PREPARED_, HAD MORE INFLAMMATION AND MORE DYSFUNCTION.”
