HOW TO OBTAIN COCONUT WATER FROM GREEN COCONUTS

Coconut water contains the same level of electrolytic balance as is
in the blood. During WWII wounded soldiers in the Pacific were given
coconut water in place of emergency plasma transfusion. Coconut water
is found in fresh green coconuts; do not confuse it with coconut milk
which is squeezed from the flesh of mature coconuts. This article
explains the method for obtaining coconut water.

STEPS

* Locate a stand of coconut trees. The coconut trees should be
twenty feet or less to gain access to green coconuts, preferably still
on the tree. You may get lucky and find some wind fallen nuts.
* Find a long straight tree branch 8 -10 ft trim off side branches.
If there is none available, you can use a fallen palm frond.
* Take a bootlace or strip of cloth about three ft long. Tie one end
of the bootlace at one end of the branch or palm frond. Tie the other
end about a foot or so further back on the branch, so that there is a
hanging loop.
* Pick out a coconut. Slide the loop under the coconut, pushing the
loop over the coconut from the bottom up, bring the loop up past the
top of the coconut.

* Turn the stick so that the loop twists over the top of the coconut
until tight. Pull down on the stick to retrieve coconut.

* The inside shell containing the coconut water is very soft. Great
care must be used in opening the young coconut. The tops of green
coconuts can easily be cut off with a serrated knife, or you can find
a large rock with a sharp point and using that point carefully peel
off the husk.

* Inside the shell, you should find a layer of young coconut meat.
This is highly nutritious and delicious. Coconut water is so safe,
pure and free of chemicals that babies and pregnant women can drink
it. Water permeates through the husk and is naturally filtered.

increasing metabolism. The vitamins in coconut water help stop
fatigue.
* The Lauric acid in coconut water is the same as found in breast
milk.
* It has little fat and no cholesterol and is more nutritious than
milk.
* Coconut water has 294 mg of potassium and is the natural sport
drink. Most sport drinks contain 117 mg. of potassium.
* Coconut water contains 25 mg of sodium, sports drinks have 41 mg
and some energy drinks have 200 mg. It contains 5 mg of natural
sugars, sports and energy drinks contain 10-25 mg of sugar.
* Drinking coconut water regularly helps flush the liver, as well as
help break down kidney and bladder stones.
* Coconut water helps reduce fever. It has 119 mg of chloride, most
sports drinks have about 39 mg.
* It is low in calories yet filling. About a half cup of coconut
water is about 17 calories.
