5 Free Tips You Can Use Now!

Here are 5 tips we're sharing for free. We've packed a lot of great information into the 40 page guide and this is just a sample.

1. Pay Per Click Advertising:

Pay per click advertising is a great way to drive targeted traffic to your website. If you are not familiar with PPC advertising, these are the advertisements you’ve likely seen that appear on the right-hand side of search results in Google and sometimes at the top of the page above search results. There are a number of PPC networks you can use including Google, Yahoo, and MSN/Bing. Target your ads by keyword and continue this consistency to your landing pages. For example, if someone searches for “corporate catering”, include the key phrase “Corporate Catering” in the headline of your text ad and send the visitor to a landing page that includes a headline and relevant content on how you can help the visitor with their corporate catering needs. Remember, relevancy is key.

Google Maps’ Local Business Center
Be sure to sign up for a free listing in Google Map's Local Business Center. Potential customers will find your catering business when they search Google Maps. They'll see your business name, address, phone number, hours of operation, and you can include a photo of your storefront. Did we mention it’s FREE? Sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/22sfwr

2. Using Video on Your Website:

Using video on your catering company’s website is a powerful way to increase the number of unique visitors to your website and bring customers/visitors back to your site to see the updated content. Include links allowing visitors share your content via social media outlets. Remember, if you create something unique and relevant, people will share it with others which only helps spread the word about your business. Here are some ideas for using video on your website:

Take an hour each week, tape yourself cooking a favorite recipe, edit the video so that it’s approximately 15-30 minutes in length and post it to your website. By doing this you’ve created your very own cooking show and this gives visitors a reason to return to your website on a regular basis. An important tip is to be sure to post the video on the same day and time each week. By posting the video on the same day and at the same time each week, this sets an expectation for a visitor and they’ll know when to return. Tape 5 to 10 short videos entitled “Tips from the Kitchen” or “Cooking 101”. In the videos show tips such as how to properly sharpen a knife, how to slice an onion, what to look for when buying pots and pans – you get the idea. Post a video of you on the homepage of your website where you talk about the services offered from your catering business and how you have helped clients in the past. This helps build trust with the visitor as they see you, the owner of the catering business, talking about your company. Tape video testimonials from customers talking about how you’ve helped them and how happy they were working with your catering business. Written testimonials are great, but there’s nothing like hearing the sincerity of a customer as they talk about how happy they were with you and your business. Add these to your website and link to them from the homepage.

3. Networking and using LinkedIn:

Sign up for LinkedIn and connect with others in your area. You’ll find that there’s nothing more powerful than networking. You’ll make great friends, find new customers, and even connect with businesses that can lead to partnerships. LinkedIn allows others to recommend you, furthering your reach and growing your number of total connections. Be sure to add your photo, bio, and a link to your website in your profile. You want to make sure others see that you’re a “real business” and they can trust you. Word of mouth marketing is key for your business and connecting with others is a great way to build rapport and ensure your catering business is first on their mind when they need an event catered.

4. Using Twitter to build your business:

As mentioned in number three, connecting with others and word of mouth marketing are key for building your business. Fortunately, Twitter can help with both. Twitter allows you to post short, 140 character messages, to your followers. Here are our best practices for using Twitter and getting the most from your efforts. Complete your profile. Be sure you have a photo, location, short bio, and a link to your website. Sounds straightforward, but many overlook this detail which can affect the number of people who follow you. Use a service like http://bit.ly or http://budurl.com to shorten your URLs. Re-tweet valuable messages that you find. This is a great way to share with others interesting things you’re finding. If you’re just getting started it can be tempting to post many messages at once. Refrain from posting 3 or more messages back-to-back. It looks like “spam”, it will impact your credibility and fewer people will follow you. Provide value in your Tweets. Link to useful tools and resources that your followers will find valuable. Add a link to your Twitter account on your website. You want to make sure visitors to your website know that you’re on Twitter. We recommend taking the next step and add a stream of your Tweets on your website as well. You can find code to copy and paste with “Settings” in your Twitter account. Show personality in your Tweets. Increase transparency in your business and let others see who you are. It will help to build trust with you and potential customers. Do not follow as many people as possible. Follow key individuals whom you find interesting and from which you can learn. When you follow as many as possible, it can become “information overload” and decrease the value of the tool. Do not auto-Tweet. We put that in the same category as posting 5 tweets in a row. It looks like spam and it usually isn’t relevant. You want to build relationships via Twitter and your Tweets should be personal and not auto-generated. Be sure to Tweet daily and let your followers know what you’re up to. Are you catering an event? Let your followers know. Do you have a blog? If so, provide a link to your latest post.

5. Email Marketing:

Send an email newsletter on a regular basis. We recommend sending an email newsletter at least once a month, but no more than four times a month. It all depends on the content, but if you are sending a newsletter that contains updates, announcements, and special promotions for your catering business, then it would be a good idea to send these once a month. If, for instance, you’ve created weekly video content as we recommended earlier and you have a list of people who’d like to be notified as soon as you’ve posted the latest content on your website, then perhaps send an email reminder, with a link to the video to these subscribers each week. Add a sign-up form to your website and begin building your email list!
