I'VE DESIGNED THIS PROGRAM JUST FOR GAMERS, SO IT HAS MANY PARALLELS
TO TRADITIONAL MMO'S/PNP GAMES!
Every workout is able to be completed in a _messy_ bedroom, with
limited space.
How do I know how to make a program for gamers? Well...
I LOVE video games. Seriously, I have EVE on in the background as I
write this...
Video games allow us regular folk to escape into a world that is
seemingly very different from our own--a world full of challenges,
where the stakes are always life or death (luckily, you tend to have
several, if not infinite, lives), and rewards (even if they’re just
virtual cash and weapons). It’s a world where your decisions and
actions have a noticeable impact, and you can be powerful and
important to the other characters around you. It’s a world I’ve
been visiting often since I first started gaming at the age of four.
And though I have never considered myself a video game addict (I
almost always managed to eat, sleep, and bathe regularly), I have been
known to consistently play for 8 to 15 hours per day. If there’s one
thing I know for sure, it’s that I always felt more in control of my
characters’ lives than my own. The more time I spent gaming, killing
enemies and completing quests, the better my in-game character would
become; however, the real-life Alex was doing anything but improving.
Even though I obviously enjoy it, gaming isn’t exactly conducive
to good health. Sitting on my ass for hours on end neither helped me
burn calories, nor helped me put on any muscle, despite the fact that
my character progressively got stronger and more agile the longer I
sat there. And let’s face it, a diet of Cheetos, Mountain Dew, and
delivery pizza isn’t going to give you the Mr. Universe abs that
your character probably had at level 1.
I wanted to look as good as the digital guys on my computer screen,
so I decided to make a change. If I just put a little bit of the time
and effort into myself that I put into games, surely I could go from
scrawny, pasty gamer to muscle man in no time. And that’s just what
I did. I went from a 125 lb. computer nerd to a 175 lb. successful
personal trainer in just over a year.
