GOOD NEWS

FOR LUNG CANCER SUFFERERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!
Inspiring Stories Of Courage And Survival ... 9 Lung Cancer Survivors
Live To Tell Their Tales.
Each One Reveals...

"How I survived lung
cancer and how YOU could too!"

Dear Friend:

If you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with lung cancer,
then this could be the most inspiring message you will ever read. I
have recently put together an e-book called “We Survived Lung Cancer
– 9 Long Term Survivors Tell Their Stories”. In it you will hear
from 9 amazing people with one deadly disease in common – they were
all diagnosed with lung cancer at various stages.

But there is good news. Each of these 9 courageous people has
survived the cancer. Each is living proof that lung cancer need not be
a death sentence, and that there is hope. Read on to hear how others
have coped with the disease, how they fought against it, and how they
eventually WON!
But first, I should explain my own background and how this book came
about. My experience of lung cancer came from my uncle, with whom I
was very close. He had smoked until the age of 38, but then quit of
his own volition. His health was apparently perfect until 2007, when
at the age of 53 he was diagnosed with advanced Stage IV lung cancer,
which the doctors told him was terminal. He was given 9 to 12 months
to live, and, on doctors’ advice, embarked on various courses of
very severe treatment. To no effect. After 10 months of suffering, he
died. I was deeply shocked. How could something like this happen so
fast, without warning? How could medical treatment be so apparently
ineffective? Why had huge amounts of medical research not produced any
visible benefit? Al these questions were in my mind, and I decided
then to research and talk with others similarly diagnosed, to hear of
their experiences, and to find out if my uncle’s sad story was
typical, or whether others had fared better.

MY RESEARCH STARTED OFF ON THE INTERNET, as you can imagine. Whilst I
found many clinical sites which spoke of Bronchio-alveoli, Navelbein
and Tarceva. I could make sense of non if it! I was totally confused
and bewildered by the jargon and the huge volume of unfathomable
information. Then I saw the range of websites selling herbs potions
and snake-oil of every description, and I wondered how anyone would
react - to dismiss them all, or try them all, just in case. Or try
just some? If so, which?
I looked past all of this material and began to talk to patients, and
I found a wide range of experiences and stories. People who had
shunned conventional medicine and placed faith in natural therapies,
others who had done just the opposite.
Out of these interviews, I decided to write a book – a
comprehensive, user-friendly, non-intimidating and positive study of
lung cancer sufferers who had survived, and continued to survive the
disease.
I wanted to do something to earn money for cancer research, so I have
pledged to donate a share of the profits to this worthy cause.

The book opens with a chapter of Frequently Asked Questions,
practical straightforward answers to the questions that go around in
the head of anyone diagnosed with lung cancer.

1. Lung Cancer - what is it?

How prevalent is it? What is the survival rate? Who is most likely
to be affected? How and where can it spread?

2. Various Types of Lung Cancers

What are the main types? The most common and the more unusual?

3. What are the Causes of Lung Cancer?

Is it just smokers at risk? Is giving up smoking the answer? What
else can cause the disease?

4. What are the Early Symptoms of Lung Cancer?

Are there always symptoms? What are the most common?

5. What are the Stages of Lung Cancer?

What are the Four Stages? How do they differ?

6. What are the possible treatments for Lung Cancer?

What treatments fall under the umbrella of conventional medicine?
What are the various specialists?

7. How quickly does the disease spread?

What are the steps in development and growth of lung cancer? How
fast do the cancers grow?

8. What are the side effects of treatment?

The side effects of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and
photodynamic therapy.

9. What alternative treatments are available?

Supplements, foods, herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture.

10. What do I do in the first week after diagnosis?

Your feelings, concerns, where to find support, what to DO.

11. How do I get in touch with support groups and others who are
going through the same thing?

What help is available? Where do I find support groups?

12. Where can I get counselling?

Referrals, community support, other options.

I have interviewed nine survivors of lung cancer, real people who
have gone through hell and are still around to talk about it.
Survivors who have beaten the odds and survived lung cancer through a
combination of fighting spirit, a positive mental approach, and a
proactive attitude to finding the best treatments establishing the
best diets and physical routines..

Joan’s Story

First there is Joan’s story. Joan, the mother of three grown up
children, went through a period of denial as a non-smoker. She then
took the brave decision to seek a second opinion which led her to
abandon radiation therapy and have surgery instead. “Given that
surgery represented a real chance of a cure…… we decided to take
the second surgeon’s advice.” And Joan’s attitude to research:
“I learnt so much from researching the disease and treatments…….
learn as much as you can to understand that the diagnosis is not a
death sentence.”

Catherine’s Story

Catherine’s story is similar to Joan’s. Also diagnosed at 54
years of age, a mother of two adult children, and also a non-smoker. A
fitness fanatic, Catherine went into shock when diagnosed, “I
certainly didn’t think there was anything wrong with me, I just
thought that I was getting older.” Catherine sought alternative
therapies, and found these effective. Despite being a stage 4 lung
cancer patient, Catherine is still thriving over three years after her
diagnosis.

Brian’s Story

Next is Brian, who was diagnosed with stage 4 Non Small Cell Lung
Cancer 3 years before telling his story. Just 32 when diagnosed, Brian
was horrified and avoided chemo for the first year, travelling the
world and trying to lead a ‘normal’ life. “In the 13th month the
lesions had clearly grown in size and it was obvious that I would have
to consider more serious treatment.” Brian emphasises the need to
live a full and busy life, placing emphasis on eating well and
exercising appropriately.

Lucy’s Story

Lucy was diagnosed with stage 1B cancer, not the worst diagnosis
and not necessarily terminal. Lucy talks of her reaction, of the sky
‘falling in’ and how she handled the waiting and tests and long
days in hospital. “The doctors reminded me that I was one of the
lucky ones – early stage, not terminal, caught in time”

Melissa’s Story

Melissa’s story is rather different, and really amazing. As a
long-term smoker, she ignored the warning signs for too long, and
although she changed her lifestyle, it was too little too late.
Melissa found the benefits of getting a second opinion, and faced
devastating but ultimately successful surgery. “When the doctor
walked in with a big smile on his face, I knew the word was good.”
12 years out of surgery and still cancer free, Melissa is truly lucky,
and she shares her thoughts and feelings with the benefit of
considerable hindsight.

Bonnie’s Story

Bonnie was diagnosed by chance, and tells of the dramatic changes
in her life. She found benefits in research, and benefitted from a
supportive husband. Bonnie also “sought support outside my family,
and found it through a charitable foundation for cancer care.” Three
years after first diagnosis, Bonnie feels lucky, and talks of her
support network and practical approach to the disease.

Richard’s Story

Richard was diagnosed four years ago, and didn’t even know what
an oncologist was until he went to one for the first time. Only then
did he realise he had cancer, his doctor simply hadn’t used the
C-word! Richard tells of the shock and paralysis after diagnosis, and
how he coped with that. How he handled his state of mind, and how he
lifted himself out of the mental abyss.

Paul’s Story

Having been diagnosed just one year ago, Paul struggled to keep on
working through his chemo treatments, but actually suffered very few
side effects. “I didn’t feel queasy at all, and was able to work
in my office almost as normal.”

Jean’s Story

And finally there’s Jean, who was diagnosed four and a half years
ago with a large tumor in one lung. “Only surgery would reveal
whether the cancer had joined to a main artery.” Jean’s surgery
was successful, and the subsequent treatments have been effective,
leaving Jean cancer free coming into her fifth year post-diagnosis.
