From Mark Barkley
Southport, Australia
DEAR FRIEND,
If you or one of your loved ones is suffering from colon cancer,
then this could be the most uplifting message you have ever read.
You see, I've recently put together an e-book called "COLON CANCER
CAN BE BEATEN : SEVEN SURVIVORS TELL HOW THEY BEAT COLON CANCER". In
it, you'll discover 7 amazing people with one DEADLY THING IN COMMON
... they all had colon cancer.
BUT HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS. EVERY ONE OF THESE 7 REMARKABLE PEOPLE BEAT
THE CANCER. THEY'RE LIVING PROOF THAT COLON CANCER DOESN'T HAVE TO BE
A DEATH SENTENCE; THAT THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.
So if you're feeling afraid, uncertain, and worried about the
future, then please relax. You're not alone. And help is at hand. Read
on and discover how others have coped with their cancer and how they
battled through and eventually WON.
But first, let me explain how this book came about ... let me take
you back to when I first became involved with colon cancer. It was a
day that truly changed my life.
To See The Pain In His Face Shattered My World!!
Recently a very close family member was diagnosed with colon cancer.
I remember when I saw the pain in his face, I felt a cold “thudâ€
in the pit of my stomach and the back of my neck started to prickle. I
started to fear the worst. I asked “What can I do?†And the
general response was “You can’t do anything?â€
HE WAS BOOKED IN FOR SURGERY TO REMOVE A SECTION OF HIS COLON.
I went straight home and read up as much as I could. Then I started
surfing the internet for any information on colon cancer. I found lots
of clinical sites, which spoke about “adenocarcinoma†and
“cancer polypsâ€. I felt like I was learning a whole new language.
I became quite frustrated and confused with the huge volume of
information that was there, especially when so much of it was written
in confusing medical jargon.
Then there were those websites selling all sorts of herbs and
potions, and promising miraculous cures. The cynic in me said “I
guess if people are desperate they’ll try anythingâ€. I wondered if
I would get to the stage of trying these alternative therapies, and if
so, how I would choose between them.
It was at this stage that a friend told me about a book she had
written.
She had had personal experience with colon cancer (with a family
member) and at the time, she explored many options regarding treatment
and did a lot of research. She told me that she felt that A
COMPREHENSIVE, USER-FRIENDLY, NON-INTIMIDATING AND POSITIVE BOOK ABOUT
HOW TO SURVIVE COLON CANCER was much needed, and so she had written
“COLON CANCER CAN BE BEATEN : SEVEN SURVIVORS TELL HOW THEY BEAT
COLON CANCERâ€. Kathleen's story was one of these. She also asked me
if I’d like to set up a web-site to share this information with
others. I asked her to send me a copy.
WHEN I RECEIVED A COPY OF THE BOOK I WAS OVERJOYED. It started with
a chapter of FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. It gave me well-researched,
easy-to-read, plain-English, practical answers to the questions that
were going around in my head.
QUESTIONS LIKE:
* HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE COLON CANCER? WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND
SYMPTOMS?
I wanted to know if my close family member could have spotted any
clues sooner and does it run in the family. How would the rest of my
family and I be better prepared?
* WHAT TESTS WILL THE DOCTOR CARRY OUT TO SEE IF SOMEONE HAS COLON
CANCER?
Will they be able to tell you on the spot if there is a problem? How
intrusive are the tests? Or will you have to wait for days, fretting
about what’s going on?
* HOW CURABLE IS COLON CANCER?
If they do tell you it’s colon cancer, what exactly does that
mean? Is it a “death sentence Will they tell you “You have 12
months to live. Get your life in order and prepare for the worst.
* WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF THE DISEASE?
The reading I’d done said that there were different stages of
colon cancer. What are the symptoms of each stage? What are the
survival rates of each stage? If you had a later stage colon cancer,
what can you do?
* HOW QUICKLY DOES THE DISEASE PROGRESS OR SPREAD?
How soon should you see a doctor? Is a delay critical?
* HOW IS COLON CANCER NORMALLY TREATED?
Would I have to go through chemotherapy and radiation treatment? If
so, for how long? What are the odds of curing the disease using these
treatments? How extensive is any surgery likely to be?
* WHAT ARE THE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENTS?
Would I lose my hair? What else could I expect?
* WHAT ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?
I’d heard of people going on special diets. High fiber diets were
mentioned, but what foods? I’d seen lots of remedies on the
internet. Which of these are proven and documented?
* HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH OTHERS WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME
THING? WHAT SUPPORT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR COLON CANCER SUFFERERS OR
FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
How do you get to talk to others, especially about their feelings in
the early stages. Who is there to lend a comforting shoulder? How does
someone get counseling?
SUDDENLY I HAD SOME ANSWERS. THEY WERE ALL THERE IN THE BOOK.
SEEN ENOUGH?
She had interviewed seven people who had survived colon cancer. And
these weren’t some “Chicken Soup†stories. They were real, warts
and all, "here’s how it happened†stories. Real stories, about
real people, who had beaten the odds and survived colon cancer.
SUSAN’S STORY
First there is Susan’s story. Susan speaks candidly about her
experience made even more poignant by the fact that she herself is an
Oncologist. In her own words, “Of all the patients an Oncologist
could have, the worst possible patient is another Oncologist. I know
this now from both sides of the fence. I have treated a colleague and
I have been a patientâ€. Her recovery is informative and uplifting.
BRIAN'S STORY
Brian’s story is similar. He put up a stubborn resistance to
treatment. “I had to do things my way. Dr M_ wanted me to have
surgery followed by Chemo Therapy to make sure that the cancer is gone
completely. I, being the stubborn individual I am, insisted on no
Chemoâ€. In his own words “Cancer is beatable; I am living proof of
thatâ€.
RACHEL’S STORY
Next is Rachel, a mother who shared her experience frankly. “I had
never felt so helpless in my life. I was used to getting what I wanted
and what I wanted was not to be sick. No matter how much I protested
or how much I sulked, the fact remained, I still had colon cancer.â€
She now volunteers at a children’s cancer ward bringing gifts, toys
and books for kids that are there.
RICHARD'S STORY
Richard placed his faith in alternative medicine and had little
trust for traditional methods. How he eventually got around to
visiting the doctor makes interesting reading. “I made the
appointment, or should I say the first appointment. And missed it. I
then made another appointment and missed it too. Finally, when I
called to reschedule the second appointment, the kind woman on the
phone asked me if I was really going to be at the appointment I was
trying to make. I was insulted so I hung up the phone.†He now does
his best to raise funds for cancer research.
THE PASTOR’S STORY
The Pastor’s story is truly inspirational. A man of strong beliefs
questioning why he should get sick. “I felt robbed of my health for
no reason. Like I was punished for someone else’s crime. Now, ten
years after the fact though, I see that it was not a punishment.†He
now spends quality time with patients in a cancer ward and offers a
valuable support network.
MAXWELL'S STORY
Maxwell was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. In his own words,
“A lot of people I have met through my cancer patient support group
(while I was an active cancer patient) and a lot of people I have met
in my cancer survivors group, did not take the stance and fight with
all their might until they had to. I did not wait until the cancer got
larger or until I got sicker. I stood my ground and fought from the
very start when I first learned of the cancers existence.†He now
enjoys his life with his loving wife and three beautiful girls.
KATHLEEN'S STORY
Kathleen’s story is compelling reading. Hers is a classic tale of
keeping all her problems to herself. “Instead of taking an
aggressive stand against cancer, I clammed up and did nothing. In
fact, I waited almost five months before anyone else knew I had
cancer. Actually, I did not even tell anyone once they found out. I
had gotten to the point in my cancer that I was unable to eat anything
without getting sickâ€. Her words offer great courage. “If you have
cancer, fight a good fight and do not forget one of your best defenses
is a strong offenseâ€.
By The Time You've Finished Reading. "Colon Cancer Can Be Beaten:
Seven Survivors Tell How They Beat Colon Cancer†.. You’ll Feel
Like A New Person, With A New, More Positive Outlook!
One of the things that impressed me most about the seven survival
stories was what they all had in common. And it wasn’t about the
clinical stuff, the stuff that most of the other websites are about.
It was the emotional stuff, the MENTAL ATTITUDE OF THESE SURVIVORS. It
was the certainty inside them that said “I’m going to beat this
thing. I’m not going to let it get to me.â€
To me that showed extraordinary strength of character, and yet here
were these seven “ordinary†people finding this strength inside
themselves. I LOVED THE WAY THEY SHARED IN THEIR STORIES, HOW THEY
KEPT POSITIVE EVEN AT THE LOWEST MOMENTS. It seemed to me reading all
the stories that this was the key to their survival. It wasn’t just
the surgery or the chemo or the radiation treatments. It was their
attitudes to their diseases. I read things that I hadn’t found
anywhere else.
