How to Find "REAL"
Sports Apparel Wholesalers

Here's what I’m talking about…

I first started looking for suppliers for my online retail business
in 2004.

I started by searching the Internet. At the time, there were a lot
of “so-called” GENUINE Sports Clothing wholesalers. What we
didn’t know at the time was most of them were simply "middlemen."

You see, many of the biggest and best Athletic Apparel wholesalers
didn’t advertise or show up easily on the search engines - if at
all.

Why?

Because they didn’t have to!

Basically, many of them felt they didn’t need us. Many of them had
decent relationships with other Sports Clothing retailers. They
didn’t feel they needed to advertise online for a bunch of “rank
amateurs”, who’s never dealt with suppliers in their life, bugging
them to death.

BUT NOW, MANY MANUFACTURERS ">You know, some well-hidden "insiders"
resource that they kept secret from all the rest of us clueless fools.

We finally ran across this "list of Sports Apparel Wholesale
sources." For around $200.00, we felt we could get this informative
list of "thousands" of wholesalers.

When they advertised this list, there were pictures of "throwback
jerseys” which was the hot item at the time.

Anyway, the price on these "Throwback Jerseys" were too good. So, we
had to buy this "list" to find out where they were getting this stuff.
So we bought the list - and you know we couldn’t sit still until we
got it. When we finally got this list, there were hundreds of Athletic
Apparel companies on it.

But it didn’t take long to get pissed off. We couldn't find any of
that damn apparel at anywhere close to the prices in the "ads." In
fact, most of the companies were retailers themselves!

So we called the company that sold us this “list” and we asked
where the "advertised" throwback jerseys were – well, you know they
couldn't tell me. I wonder why?

Oh, the list was BIG...and there were "hundreds” of companies
listed. But as far as we’re concerned, it was a total waste of
valuable research time, and more importantly, our money. Some of you
might know what I’m talking about.

The next time (yes, there was a next time) we joined this so-called
“Sports wholesalers directory membership.” We found this directory
online. It was supposed to be a meeting place for genuine wholesalers
and people who wanted to buy Sports Apparel at wholesale prices.

ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR SALES HAS SHOWED GROWTH IN A NUMBER OF AREAS,
INCLUDING OUTDOOR/ADVENTURE (UP 8.0%), SPORT SANDALS/SLIDES (UP 6.7%),
TENNIS (UP 5.0%); AND SKATE/SURF (UP 4.5%).

So, we figured we would join. We paid the membership fee. We assumed
since there was a membership fee required (I don’t remember the
exact price), the wholesalers were verified and legitimate.

We began to search for name brand golf shirts from different
companies. Again, their pictures looked good. The prices weren’t bad
either.

Well, I ordered a pretty sizeable amount. Once I got them, about
half of them faded and smelled like they had been used to plug a leak
in someone’s water pipes. When I asked this wholesaler why he
shipped me defective golf shirts, his excuse was “that’s the way
they were sent them to me.” Yea, right!

And this was one of the big boys. You mean to tell me their
manufacturers would send garbage like that? I don’t think so. See,
you don’t have the time or money to waste. You need information
which has been researched, verified, and most importantly, tested.

My experience which comes from dealing with scammers and frauds.
Experience which comes from making many mistakes that cost thousands
of dollars, so you won’t have to.

"So I decided to go ahead and start contacting the
Athletic suppliers one by one. One of the first suppliers
I contacted was actually a manufacturer, and the
prices he gave me were unbelievable,Man, I was excited
and was about to order the tees. But the supplier told
me that the minimum order quantity was 500 or more.
That didn’t bother me too much, since I knew there was
a TON of other suppliers I could quickly contact, but first
I decided to try your method for getting around minimum
order Sports Apparel quantities."

How to Get Customers to
LOOK FOR YOU

Here’s the funny thing (just a figure of speech, nothing was
humorous about this lesson at all). It wouldn’t have mattered one
bit if our company had gotten hold of 200 genuine Sports Apparel
wholesalers.

You know why?

Because we didn’t have a clue as to how to get customers to buy
our stuff! See, we assumed once we found these “real” Sports
Apparel wholesalers, our job was done. It would take no time to build
this Sports Apparel dynasty.

We assumed customers would absolutely drool over us. Man, we were in
for a "rude awakening."

So, here we are rushing on down to Office Max spending money.

Printer, desks, paper, pens, software for the computer, cartridges,
max perks card for business discounts were adding up ( after all,
we’d be back soon because business would be booming).

We got about 500 business cards printed. We printed up some flyers
and advertised in the local newspaper. We got a small Yellow Pages ad.


We joined the local Chamber of Commerce. Then, we waited for the
phone to ring. First couple of weeks, nothing. One month went buy,
nothing. Two months went by, nothing.

Four months, nada!

Those first 5 months, we were so mad, depressed, embarrassed,
uptight and just plain pissed off! It was very humbling.

After all, I admit I was bragging about how we were going into
“take over” the Sports Apparel retail business. Family and friends
was always asking the same thing. It was always, “how’s
business”? The phone would ring, “how’s business”? Parents of
our children’s friends, “how’s business?” Neighbors,
“how’s business?” It was absolutely sickening.

Then, what made matters worse, we would attend the Chamber of
Commerce meetings listening to all the Einstein’s who tried to tell
us how we should run our business.

Hell, most of them were doing worst than we were (although, they
wouldn’t admit it), and they were in business longer!

Remember this: YOU ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF FINDING CUSTOMERS! Not
spending LOTS of money to look good. Once you adopt this mindset,
you'll save yourself lots of time and embarassment.

This League Has Its Own Rules!

I GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU: Does it make any sense for you to pay for
anything other than proven strategies that will get you customers?

It’s like devouring loads of content for your fantasy sports mock
draft. You demand high quality content for your “blueprint” in
preparation for the upcoming season. It’s the same here. Get rid of
the garbage as quickly as possible, in order to focus on the gems.

You are in the MARKETING BUSINESS! Remember? This is the mindset you
need to be in. Your job is to find and keep customers first, period.

All day, every day. 24/7. At the end of the day, no matter how good
your two piece jogging gear, that Fila® Sweatsuit, or those
Sketchers®, look, you need a consistent stream of customers to sell
to.

You want extraordinary results, then you need extraordinary
strategies. Normal “ain’t” extraordinary and it sure as hell
won’t cut it these days. So, which one would you rather be?
