Recommendations for the Eye Can Too! Read series
“Lesley Barker has taken her professional understanding of the relationships between good visual skills and effective learning and synthesized it with her previous expertise in teaching derived from years as an educator and homeschooling parent. She has provided a unique and powerful tool to help your children become more efficient and less frustrated learners” ~ Dr. Gail Doell, Optometrist.
“I am very thankful God placed you, and your series in my family’s life at this time. It’s hard to believe that my son saw two different eye doctors and passed his pediatric eye exams without anyone knowing he had a problem! Crazy!” ~ Andrea LeRoy, homeschool parent from Illinois
“Your activities are very creative, from a learning point of view, and even a person who does not know much about vision could ascertain that the eyes need to move properly or a lot in order to do these games. Also, they hold a child’s interest. I can tell you are an educator with these activities.”
~ Anne-Marie Jordan from Georgia

Does your student skip little words or even whole lines of text when reading? It could be due to underdeveloped eye movement skills. Students who have deficits of their eye movements have difficulty learning to read efficiently because they can’t seem to control where their eyes point. Maybe they move their head back and forth or need to use a straight edge to keep their place in a book. When asked to complete a worksheet arranged in columns and rows, they may be unable to “see” all the problems. Often when a student’s saccadic eye movement deficits improve, ADHD symptoms reduce. The activities in The Purple Book exercise and improve a student’s eye movement skills so they will find reading easier, faster, and more efficient.

Does your student seem to lack strategies for coping with visual information? This could be due to delays in the development of their visual perceptual skills. Starting with activities to help develop a student’s visual attention—”looking with their eyes and not with their hands” - The Green Book is full of guided academic activities to improve visual processing skills. Your student needs this book if they are having trouble learning to read sight words or if they spell the same word several different ways on the same page. Students who have difficulty with geometric shapes, map skills, or doing simple puzzles will benefit from the activities in this book too. If your student has poor handwriting and especially if they have trouble spacing their letters and words evenly, this book will help.

Does your student have difficulty completing worksheets where they must draw a line to match items on one side of the page with others on the other side? They may be suffering from a delay in the visual spatial skills of laterality and directionality. These students also tend to express that reading is “confusing” to them. They often don’t reliably begin reading at the left side of the page and may reverse letters like b, d, p, and q when reading and writing. These students may do poorly in sports too because of the extreme difficulties they may have with bilateral integration and crossing the midline. They may even be called “dyslexic”. The activities in The Yellow Book provide guided activities to build left/right awareness, the ability to cross the midline, and actually serve to build confidence and make reading easier and more enjoyable.
