Do salesmen tick you off?

Hi, my name is Dominique Ramirez, but everyone calls me Dom. I have
talked to thousands of people about sales over the years, and it seems that
many of them held a deep hatred for salesmen. Many of them even said the
word “salesman” as if it were a curse word!

Why is it that salesmen make people so angry? Well, I’ve learned all
about exactly why so many people hate salesmen, but before I tell you, let me
tell you about Barbara and the new car that she bought.

Barbara, or Barb, went to a car dealership one day looking for a newer luxury
car to replace her old one. She didn’t really want to buy a brand new car,
because she could not afford it, but she wanted to find a used car that would
have a smooth ride and as few problems as possible.

When she arrived at the dealership, she began to walk toward the used cars.
Just before she got to the full sized cars, a salesman approached her. He
shook her hand and smiled with a wide, white-toothed grin. They made some
small talk and had a short conversation. Then she told him what she was
looking for. She specifically said that she was working with a budget. He
appeared to be listening closely.

As soon as Barb finished talking, the salesman said, “I know just the vehicle
for you!” as he led her toward the new cars. He showed her a brand new, fully-
loaded Cadillac, he told her quite a bit about the car, had her sit in it, they
went for a test drive, and when they returned to the dealership, she was in
love with the car.

He asked her, “So, can you see yourself driving home with this car today?”
She looked at the pretty wood-grained dash of the car and imagined herself
driving it into her garage. She responded, “Yes, I can.” The salesman gave her
his charming grin once again, and said, “Alright, then. Let’s get the
paperwork out of the way, then.”

They started to walk toward his office when she remembered her budget.
She asked him, “Well, how much does that car cost?” He stopped walking,
turned to her, put his hand on her shoulder and empathetically replied, “If
you want this car, don’t worry about the price. We can work up a monthly
payment that will work for you. You do want the car, don’t you, Barb?” She
did want the car really bad. She nodded and the salesman continued to lead
her toward his office.

They sat down, she filled out some paperwork, and he went to talk to his
supervisor. When he came back, he had some more paperwork. He showed
her what her monthly payment would be and where she should sign. The
monthly payment was a little bit higher than she had hoped, but she thought
she could make some cutbacks to afford it. Besides, she had come this far
already. She signed the paperwork and the salesman handed Barb the keys.

Six months later, Barb’s bills are piling up. She finally discovers that she won’
t be able to keep the car unless she gets a second job. She goes back to the
dealership to see if she can return the car. The salesman who sold the car to
her seemed to have a different attitude about him. He said, “I’m sorry, once
you drive it off the lot it’s not worth as much as when you bought it. We could
buy it back from you but we can only give you a third of what the new price of
the car was.” She left the dealership in tears.

When she got home, she looked at the paperwork from her purchase of the
car. She wanted to find something that would say that she could return the
car. She didn’t find what she was looking for, but she did find out that she
had agreed to a 10-year-loan on a high interest rate! By the end of the ten
years, she will have almost paid for the car twice!
Barbara was crushed.

She had to sell the car, but she only got a little more out of it than the
salesman offered. Today, Barbara is driving a small compact car from the
early nineties. She is still paying off the loan from that Cadillac.

Has this ever happened to you? It happens so often to good people. You may
ask, “Other than avoiding purchases altogether, how can I avoid getting
conned like Barb did?” Well, I’m proud to say that I know the answer and I
would be glad to tell you all about it. Oh, but first I need to tell you why so
many people hate sales people.

The reason there’s so much controversy between sales people and consumers
is quite simple. People are, quite often, simply intimidated by salesmen. Let’s
be honest, though. Sales people do know more about the products than
consumers do, don’t they? They know all of the background information that
goes into a loan, they know the profit margins on certain products. Heck,
they even know how to talk people away from important information.

So, how can you avoid getting conned? All you have to do is know how to
communicate with salesmen. You see, there are certain things that salesmen
listen for. Secrets, if you will. They listen for these things so that they know
how far they can push a prospective customer. Barbara, for example, said
very few of these things. She was a sitting duck for any salesman who wanted
to sell her an over-priced product.

Imagine how much money you can save if you knew this secret language. You
could save thousands of dollars just on one purchase, not to mention the
next purchases you make throughout your life. And besides, wouldn’t it be
worth it just to beat some dirty salesman at his own game?

How do you figure out what these secrets are? It’s easy! I have written a
digital guide for consumers just like you who don’t want to get deceived by
