To: All Business Owners using QuickBooks

Hi, my name is Jennifer Thieme. I'm a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and have worked as a self employed bookkeeper for over 12 years.

Let me ask you something I ask all my clients:

How good do you want to feel
about the numbers?™

I want you to feel good about your numbers in QuickBooks. That's why I developed this new series called, "Get More From QuickBooks."

I have always worked very hard to help my clients with their bookkeeping. I put tons of time into daily bookkeeping chores for them and in developing solutions so they could do their own books if they wanted.

Over time I discovered that there are common mistakes many, many business owners make in QuickBooks. I kept training different clients on the same problems I was seeing over and over.

Seeing the same mistakes over and over
was like being on a merry-go-round!

These clients were intelligent people innocently trying to do their own bookkeeping. Nothing wrong with that.

None of these business owners knew that they were making the same mistakes that many other people make! Many of them didn't even realize they were making ANY MISTAKES AT ALL until I pointed it out.

These mistakes create frustration, wasted time, and in some cases, a serious amount of wasted money.

Mistakes make people feel bad, no doubt about it. You can't get the information you need, when you need it. Plus things just don't look right and you don't know why.

Very frustrating.

And why do business owners make bookkeeping mistakes? I think it's because...

Many small business owners
don't view bookkeeping
like they used to.

It's a recent development that people view bookkeeping as a simple or clerical task. It wasn't always this way.

If you see old movies or books that mention bookkeepers, you will understand the bookkeeping role better, that bookkeepers were not simple "clerks," as they are often viewed today.

Have you ever seen "The Untouchables"? Al Capone's bookkeepers were absolutely crucial to Eliot Ness' case against him.

In fact, income tax evasion was the only thing Ness could convict Capone of.

And how could this happen? Because of the records kept by Capone's bookkeepers.

Remember "All the President's Men"? Deep Throat uttered these famous lines:

"Follow the money."

This means to trace financial records... in other words, the money came from where? When? How?

And it went where? When? How?

There's only one way to do this. Via good bookkeeping.

I loved "Shawshank Redemption." Although in the movie Andy Dufresne was referred to as a "banker," in reality he was a bookkeeper whose bookkeeping skills were recognized and tapped by the prison warden.

Andy's amazing bookkeeping skills enabled him to start a new life after escaping from the prison. (Remember seeing the two sets of books near the end of the film?)

I think it's the advent of computer software like QuickBooks that has somehow convinced ordinary people that bookkeepers are not necessary, or that anybody can do bookkeeping with little or no training.

After working in this profession for over 12 years, I can truthfully state that excellent bookkeepers are a rare breed, and are becoming harder and harder to find.

Bookkeeping is NOT data entry.
Good bookkeepers have specialized knowledge.

Here's something I recently saw on Yahoo Answers:

"Does anyone know of a free QuickBooks tutorial site? I desperately need to learn the basics of QuickBooks by tomorrow."

"By tomorrow"???

Oh my goodness, this person is in for an unpleasant surprise!

For some reason business owners don't remember that being a good bookkeeper is like being a nurse, a paralegal, an auto mechanic, a contractor. It's a specialized field requiring specialized training.

Here's the good news:

Anybody can learn to be a bookkeeper...

... but it's important to first see that good bookkeeping is vital to a successful business.

Everybody knows that marketing is important. Everybody knows that customer service is important. Everybody knows that having an excellent product or service to sell is important.

But often, small business owners don't realize that good internal bookkeeping is just as important as those other things.

That's where my ebook comes in. I teach you the 27 most common and frustrating mistakes I've seen in all my years helping people with QuickBooks.
