‘How to get this young person a job’

Secrets of getting a job in hard economic times revealed!

At the moment, there is a current crisis in teenage unemployment in Australia.

Teenage unemployment is one of the scourges of our nation that is simply not addressed by our government.

According to ABS statistical data, in 2008, approximately 22% of people aged 15-24 are declared unemployed.

It was estimated that youth unemployment in regional areas such as Wollongong NSW hit a 41% high in October 2006
- and thats before the recession in peak times of economic certainty.

Compare this level of unemployment to 4.3% for the 25-29 year old bracket, 3.2% for the 30-34 year old bracket, 3.4% for the 35-39 year bracket and 2.7% for the 40-44 age bracket and we have a fairly strong case for the need make change to help young people find suitable full-time employment.

So why should you care?

The economic cost to the community and the government is huge. Youth unemployment leads to depression, lack of self esteem and in some cases, youth suicide in young people. Crime soars in local unemployment hotspots. Not to mention the loss of extra helping hands to boost local industry and the general economy.

Below is an excerpt from a report on youth unemployment commisioned by the government in 1996:

http://www.facs.gov.au/internet/facsinternet.nsf/aboutfacs/programs/youth-tpwpy.htm

"In an era characterised by a relentless search for efficiencies,
the costs of youth unemployment and the
inefficiencies it represents, seem to be ignored. Yet the
evidence of the huge cost burden of youth unemployment
is strong, not only in the way it marginalises
many young people and destroys their hopes, but also
in the economic costs to individuals and to the community." (Page 1)

So, what is the answer?

Is the answer in making students stay at High School longer? Is the answer more education?

No- according again to the above report:

http://www.facs.gov.au/internet/facsinternet.nsf/aboutfacs/programs/youth-tpwpy.htm

"The number of young people in schools has increased
over the past decade. By 1993 there were 1.3 million
full-time secondary school students, of whom 68%
attended government schools. Throughout the same
period, the retention rate of students continuing to
Year 12 has increased markedly, from a low of 36% in
1982 to 76.6% in 1993. This suggests a growing perception
by young people that higher education increases
the chances of secure employment in the long term." (page 7)

This perception is wrong. Students can read all the textbooks they want, it still wont get them a better chance of being employed.

What we have to acknowledge is that even though students are staying at school longer, its to no avail - because it does not increase the chances of a young person of being employed!

There is still a youth unemployment problem even though young people are trying harder to stay in school.

So what is the current solution in this economic crisis? What does one suggest moving forward?

This is what I propose:

The solution currently is to make young people more street smart and savvy with job applications.

The solution currently is to make young people more skilled in self marketing and self promotion to give them the best possible chance with a 1 in 200 shot in an application.

And the solution currently is to give youth some steps to make sure that they are guarenteed the best shot of achieving their career goals and dreams.

Here is a story which made me want to act on this issue. I had been through 8 months of unemployment and had to rethink specific actions that were getting me absolutely nowhere in the current job market.

I eventually landed a job after 8 months NOT using techniques such as internet ads, newspaper ads or networking.

With current job ads shrinking, and companies cutting back on expenditure on job ads, it is up to YOU to find out how to best communicate and market yourself to a potential employer.

I honestly believe that people should be proactive in educating themselves as to what the current market conditions are, and how they should best market themselves accordingly. Otherwise they will be left at the end of the queue.

Ordering this book will therefore save you an enormous amount of time and energy.

Rather than job hunting by trial and error methods, this e-book will show you the best methods to go about your job hunting and to make sure you get what you want- and fast.
