18 STEP RECOVERY STRATEGY SUMMARY

*Please read the legal disclaimer at the end of this document.

Important Note

This 18 STEP RECOVERY STRATEGY is suitable for people who have a
back injury or condition which has the potential to be improved by
personal treatment and intervention. Your particular condition may
prevent you from applying some of the steps initially, but over time
you should aim to increase the number of steps. For a severe back
problem, it would be normal to limit certain steps until you have the
medical opinion of your Doctor. Neither is it a race to get through
the steps quickly, you must therefore take a measured and sensible
approach to each step. You will be governed by limitations which you
may impose personally or your body will impose for you (Pain!),
however, you should aim to obtain as much from the recovery strategy
as possible without causing further pain or deterioration in your
condition. You may find that with improvement, the steps in
theRecovery Strategy become habitual, and in the future these basic
principles will help avoid further problems to your back.

RESULTS MAY VARY, for example; where irreparable damage has been
caused to the back, it may never recover completely and although you
may have experienced dramatic reduction in pain, your back problem
will need to be correctly "managed" to maintain a "quality of life" or
"lifestyle" that you desire. How well you manage your back problem
depends on the knowledge you have available and how relevant it is to
your condition.

Prior to commencing this 18 STEP STRATEGY, it is highly recommended
that first you do the following:

1. Be clear about how your back condition originated._For example;
did you sustain a back injury while lifting a heavy object, or was it
due to a car accident?_

2. Determine if your pain is muscular, skeletal or nerve related, or
could it be something else. For example; back injuries that result from
an accident are one thing, but if you suffer back pain for no apparent
reason, it could be related to internal organs, kidney stones, cancer,
sclerosis of the liver, poor mattress, or any number of reasons.

3. Consider how much your condition has affected your normal life
and your ability to perform regular duties with a clear mind and
rational thought. For example; the level of pain or restricted
movement from back injury can increase slowly over time, therefore
people may experience a gradual decline in quality of life without
knowing it. The seriousness of their physical condition never becomes
apparent to them.

4. Determine what level of recovery you need to achieve, in what
time frame, and if this is realistic given the nature of your back
condition.
