I grew up in the ghettos of Philadelphia, PA. I lived in a six
bedroom home, but I lived with my mom, sisters, brother, nieces,
nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and "friends of the
family". There was always money issues and there were only a few
people that could hold down a steady job.
I was able to go to school and finish my education, but I eventually
began hanging with the "cool crowd" and I sold drugs. I grew up in a
drug house. My father was a drug addict, as was many of my other
relatives. I've seen and witnessed many tragedies in my
lifetime--even one of my close friends was shot and killed--He was
only 21 years old!!
I saw so much negativity that I thought it was "normal behavior".
Things weren't all bad, I had my health and a pretty good sense of
humor. I also believed there was a lot of good in the world--I just
needed to experience it beyond what I saw on the television screen and
heard on the radio. AS A teenager, I met a couple of friends that
helped me _CHANGE MY ATTITUDE_ and outlook on life. They travelled a
lot, ate fine foods, gave positive feedback, and constructive
criticism. They didn't want anything in return--it was genuine. To
be honest, I was skeptical and I thought they had some kind of hidden
agenda, but they didn't. They inspired me and the other children in
the neighborhood to be the best we could be. To my detriment "some
old habits never died" and I went back to the streets to "hustle and
flow". At that time, I felt like I didn't have too many options.
My family would stress that I needed to get a good education and go to
school--which I did. I excelled in school--the problem wasn't the
academics--it was lack of money and resources. Everyone would tell
me and my other cousins how smart we were, but I would ask, "If we are
so smart, and our family is so smart and intelligent, why the hell are
we broke?"
I made a _DECISION_ in life that I was going to be someone of
importance. I didn't care about fame, but I yearned, pleaded,
begged, and searched tirelessly for riches and everything it
represented. Once I _ESTABLISHED MY_ _PURPOSE_, positive things
began to happen. I was making money 24/7. I stayed at nice hotels,
dated pretty girls, had the nicest clothing and drove nice cars, and I
wasn't even 20 years old! As the saying goes--easy come, easy go.
I lost it all. I went to college and got it back, but again, I made
fast money but not enough for the long term. I did receive my
college degree and entered a Multi Level Marketing company upon
graduation. One of the companies just didn't work out, and the other
company where I began to see good results, was shut down by the
Federal Trade Commission. Talking about terrible luck!! Again, I
was conditioned from an early age to think a certain way, so I wasn't
surprised, although I was disappointed.
THE TURNING POINT
ONCE I ENTERED MLM #3, THINGS BEGAN TO GO WELL. I WAS ADVANCING
WITH THE COMPANY AND JUST HAD A WONDERFUL YEAR AND JUST FINISHED THE
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS AND WAS PREPARING FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE. DECEMBER
28, 1999, MY HOME BURNED DOWN IN A TWO HOME FIRE. AGAIN, I WAS
DEVASTATED AND EVERYTHING WAS GONE!! If you are still reading, I
thank you because after reading all of this negative info- it can
become depressing. The fire turned out to be a blessing in disguise
because 3 weeks later, an opportunity presented itself where I could
go with the company out of state to help build the company and do some
sales and training. I spent years with the company and I LEARNED
FROM VERY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE. They taught me how to realize and
recognize my inner strengths. I was coached and mentored and trained
to develop skills that I DIDNT LEARN IN SCHOOL!!
_I WAS TAUGHT HOW TO TAKE MY STREETSMARTS AND COMMON SENSE AND APPLY
IT TO THE BUSINESS WORLD._ They taught and showed me how to develop
superior work ethic that I could use whether I was in business for
myself or working for someone else. I began to think differently and
act differently. I WAS AT THE TOP OF MY GAME AND I FELT GOOD. I
TRAVELLED NATIONWIDE AND BUILT SALESFORCES AND INCREASED SALES
EVERYWHERE I WENT!!! I CAME TO ALSO REALIZE THAT WITH A LOT OF
SUCCESS COMES A LOT OF RESPONSIBILITY.
