Hi! I'm Alfonso.

It all started in 2000, when we moved to Sri Lanka with the family. After 30 years of hiking in the 'west' with excellent topomaps, I was shocked not to find decent maps for many parts of Asia. Only a couple of months after the US govern-ment had switched of the 'noise' on all GPS signals, I arrived in a region where there wasn't even a decent road map!

Since that time we started an insane quest: making our own maps, based on available material (satellite imagery, local maps, GPS tracklogs from friends) and logging all our own trips anywhere with a GPS.

It took us 4 years to map Sri Lanka, including street maps of some urban areas. Next came the Maldives (even most marine maps are wrong!), then the Indian Himalayas (for which even the famous US military maps are grossly incorrect). Currently we're uncovering the secrets of Oman. And Nepal and (Chinese controled) Tibet are also well under way, and some parts of Borneo are finished.

What do our customers have to say about it? Well, nothing yet: it's just hitting the market.

BUT we did spread it to some knowledgable people, experts in the region. See what they have to say.

Dear Alfonso, This fantastic! Thanks very much indeed for this. I can truly need it as I'm in the middle of preparing a new book on the Western Himalayas.

Dear Alfonso, this is again amazing stuff. Thanks so much for all this. I am amazed that so muc is known when so little maps are available.

Would it be much of a problem for you to furnish a map of the entire area of my book? After what I've seen I could think of nobody better.

...

I would, if I may, certainly forward these maps to the cartograper as references as this is the best I have seen so far and give you a truly deserved credit for your work in my book.

Hello Alfonso!

What can I say? Fantastic. Truly this setup with OziExplorer works amazingly. I had it running during a trip to an elephant orphanage near Kandy and it certainly brought a great deal of envy to my passengers. Naturally I declined their requests for copies - it wouldn't be right to pass on your hard work.

... there is a very tangible market for this kind of thing.

Best regards and thanks again!

Kasun

Can you believe that I'm 81 Years Young??

You have been so kind to send me the latest Colombo maps (in statu nascendi) together with the satellite imagery covering the Greater Colombo Area, which will indeed be more useful to me for my academic interests than the finished version, as are both great admirers of the Late Sir Arthur [C. Clarke], who was the one who predicted with such great accuracy about Geostationary Satellites!!

With my warmest regards,

Cecil

Do you plan to visit LADAKH, TIBET, SRI LANKA, MALDIVES, OMAN any time soon?

Then you need a GOOD map

You came to the right place!

***EXCLUSIVE offer***

This level of detail is just unheard of

Mercator Productions specialises in detailed mapping of the edges of the mapped world:
The last pieces of free Tibet in the Indian Himalayas: (Ladakh, Lahaul & Spiti) Serendip: the whole of Sri Lanka The Maldives (with resort indicator) Beautiful Oman (almost ready)
And coming up soon : Nepal, Borneo, and more!

If you plan to visit ANY of these places, you better be prepared.

These maps just have NO competition

AND THERE'S MORE:

NOW THEY ALL HAVE A GPS VERSION TOO !

Before giving you the details, and perhaps to show off just a little bit: lets compare the 'best' locally available map (made by one of the most famous Ladakhi trekking guides), the US famous U502 series topo, and our map.

First, the 'local' map, of wich the author acknowledges himself: "only the placenames are reliable, the paths and roads need major corrections."

So, what about the US intelligence maps? The righteously famous U502 series (sometimes). Well, MUCH better, that's for sure:

Oh man, this LOOKS much better. The rivers are more complete, and it also shows two river crossings, although the one at Darbuk is now south of the village, not north of it. And after the 2nd bridge there's a road alright going to Shyok. But, have a look at the REAL situation.

our own map (contour info omitted for clarity):

See the difference: the first bridge is WAY more south (in fact, just off te map, south of Punpun), and the second bridge is WAY more to the west (yes, that's to the left).

Be honest with yourself: which of these 3 maps would YOU like to have in your hands when traveling through that area?

Often I'm asked WHY are your maps so good? Well, for GPS navigation, you just have to be INCREDIBLY accurate. There's no room for sloppy work. It's as simple as that.

Now, you might try to take it off Google Earth or so. Well, good luck to you: their map overlay for these regions is either totally absent, or it sucks! And ever tried to put a sat image on your GPS device (that is IF there's a good coverage of the area, and IF you get it calibrated accurately)? Well, I assure you, once on the road, you'll see next to nothing on your screen, particularly in full sunshine. Remember, there's not much shade in Ladakh. You NEED an accurate and contrast-rich map, nothing less will do.

I don't want to waste your time. If you're convinced about the quality, you can go straight to the order page:
