I was on a scholarship studying modern dance in Utah, and had a
promising career ahead of me when I was involved in a bad skiing
accident. It was an HORRENDOUS FALL, I didn't know which way was up,
and by the time the rescue sled had reached me on the mountain, I was
SCREAMING IN PAIN. I couldn't walk. It felt like my knees had been
torn apart.
I couldn't walk, let alone dance!
I flew back home to Australia in a wheelchair, MY DREAMS of a dance
career were over. The doctors advised me that surgery was my only
chance of walking properly again, I had no other option but to go
under the knife. Even then, due to the damage I had sustained, they
couldn't promise me that my knees would function fully again. And then
they assured me that they would now be prone to further damage and
would probably require surgery again if I ever wanted to do anything
active again! Then things got even worse. I went in for preliminary
exploratory surgery and when I awoke the following day, I was in more
pain than ever before. I discovered that I was unde the "care" of a
knee specialist who had used me as a demonstration model to the
interns to show how the torn ligaments created instability in the knee
joint. Without my permission, he had demonstrated this amazing
mobility by yanking on my leg in all different directions to see how
far they could bend and twist it. I remember thinking - "I don't
believe I'm actually PAYING this medical professional to treat me so
badly and put me in more pain!" I was furious.
I didn't go back. Instead I put all my energies into finding
alternative remedies and I came across a unique, holistic exercise
technique called "Pilates". For the next 10 weeks I followed the
technique, building up my strength slowly until I was able to start
walking on my own again. When I finally did return to the doctors they
were AMAZED. I no longer needed surgery. I was overcome with relief. I

_Linda's Story_
_In December 06 I injured my hip and after years of carrying babies
on that hip the damage was serious. I could not move the hip joint off
centre without considerable pain. I had to lift the whole leg to roll
left to right, could not even get into a car with lifting the leg into
position. I started physio but it was very painful, and as I have a
pacemaker could not have electronic devises to stimulate the area._

_Sally's Story_
_It began in my mid 50's as an infrequent stiff neck, then an
infrequent but severe pain down the back of my right shoulder. I
blamed it on stress and sitting in front of a computer for hours and
hours. Then the pain became chronic. Massage sometimes helped. I did
regular exercise at a personal training gym. After 18 months, I took
up a suggestion from my nephew's fiancee to look for a Pilates centre
