My name is Dr. Mayra Alfonso. I am a medical doctor and I currently
practice Medicine in the state of Arkansas. I finished my Doctorate
education, in 1992, completed my specialty training in Physical

A pleasant summer afternoon, when I was still a child, has still its

given me something, in a small box with little holes on it, and I was
too excited about finding out what it had in it. In one breath, I
opened up the boxand WOW! There was a small dog inside, a Chihuaha,
just waiting to leap out! You know, I don't have words to describe my
feelings then, and how much I thanked my parents for the loving gift.
And, I'm sure, there must have been moments like this in your life
too!
It marked the start, and ever since then, dogs have always been my
constant companion. Today, I cannot even think of a moment in my life
without them. Coco, Abbye, Benjie, Cody, Charlieand Ladyhave always
been my love and inspiration.
As I tell you this, and, in fact, whenever I talk about my love for
dogs to someone, a sense of guilt takes over me.
Still today, I cannot forget, and FORGIVE myself for what happened
to Lady.
Lady was my Cocker Spaniel, she was my loyal companion during my
years of medical schooling and training. I have never seen a dog so
full of life and bounce like Lady. You said anything, and Lady was
thereup and first. A few months after I started my residency training,
from this state, slowly, I began to observe something unusual in Lady.
The shine and burst of life seemed missing in her. I took her to the
Vet, and he gave her some medicines. But, Lady was not coming back to
her usual self.
I took her then to Michael, my old friend and a leading Vet in NY.
Michael examined Lady very closely and a few minutes later, he then
