RECENT TESTIMONIAL:
FIRST E-MAIL:
"Hi Gil, How are you? I got the book shortly after this email and
read it over the next couple of days. I have to say Gil I feel like I
know you. I have struggled with my nailbiting habit for my entire
life. (I am 40 something now) You hit the nail on the head so many
times in the book about this habit. I never really thought about the
inspection of my nails until you brought it to my attention. I also
have 3 entries in my journal. Great exercise to make you actively
think about what you are doing. At any rate I started the therapy on
Feb. 15th. My first week was a great success. This second week I have
had a little setback (really only affected 2 fingers) but I think I
will keep the book handy and keep referring back to it. I find the
book therapeutic. You know I have white tips and I love looking at
them!!!!!! My only issue right now is I get worried that this
adoration of my white tips will blur in my mind as the "inspection" of
my nails. What do you think about this? Christine"
FOLLOW UP:
Good to hear from you. I just reread most of the book. I am doing
well but still feel "urges" (kind of like a smoker does after they
quit). I catch myself immediately when I get the urge. I do not bite
or pick at them. I just painted them last weekend and it has actually
helped me alot. I desperately want them to look good. In years gone by
I would pick and peel at the nail polish. I have not been using your
trick because I catch myself before I pick, but those urges are coming
along alot. What do you think? I believe the methodology will work to
help dissolve the urges. I still feel Iike I am not cured but have
this final hump to get over. I also have to confess I have to work on
my sound. This has been the hardest part of the therapy for me. I am
still truly pleased with my overall progress and my family is so
happy. My daughters aged 10 and 7 have noticed my nails and so has my
husband. He has been after me for years to quit. Can't thank you
enough for all the help and support.Take Care, Christine"
FINAL NOTE:
"Hi Gil, Just thought I would touch base, My urges have greatly
subsided in the past couple of weeks. I also want you to know I can
vouch for another one of your theories that nail biting is more
closely related to boredom than stress. The day after the email below
my house was broken into. If that isn't a stressful situation!!! Well,
I want you to know I still have all ten of my nails. I don't think I
even thought about my nails for atleast the next 3 days. The break in
probably broke the psychological part of the habit which is just as
hard to kick as the physical part. My thinking is the whole process to
break the nail biting habit completely both the psychological and the
physical could take 6 months to a year. You have to retrain your brain
also. Maybe that could be your next book! Take Care, Christine P.S. I
am getting a manicure this weekend. Can't wait!!"
