Something else to keep in mind is the “halo effect.” In his book, Mindless Eating, Brian Wansink, PhD, says most people give food labeled as low-fat, healthy, or diet a “halo” which can lead to overeating.

Remember, and this is huge, just because something labeled healthy or low-fat does not mean it is a better choice than the full fat, non-diet version. This is why it is important to read labels and do the comparison yourself.

Mindful Weight Loss SOLUTION #1:
Pay Attention to Your Food!




Have you ever reached the bottom of a bag of chips or cookies and wonder, “Did I really eat all of that?!”

Generally this happens when you mind is focused on the something that happened in the past or something that may happen in the future instead of the food you are putting into your mouth!

This is called eating mindlessly or eating on autopilot. It is my firm belief that eating on autopilot is the number one cause of overeating.
Converting yourself from a mindLESS eater into a mindFUL eater is key if you want to lose weight and keep it off forever.

When all of your attention is focused on the food in front of you, it is called mindful eating. When you eat mindfully, each meal will take on a whole new meaning.

When you are fully present at your meals, you will be better able to notice your body’s cues.

This will make you less likely to overeat.

When you eat mindfully you will also feel more satisfied by your food. This will lead to fewer cravings later in the day.

DID YOU KNOW…

It takes your brain about 20 minutes to send and receive the signal that you are full!

So when you rush through eating you are more likely to overeat on accident!

This is not a good thing if weight loss is your goal so SLOW DOWN and savor every bite!

Which brings us to Mistake #2...


MISTAKE#2: Exercising is Enough

You Think Exercising is Enough

Thousands of years ago our primitive ancestor’s had to hunt and forage their food, build or find shelter, and migrate (on foot) with the seasons.

Every single decision they made took physical work to execute and this is exactly what the human body was built to do.

As a matter of fact, every one of your body’s processes can be linked to one single goal…to keep you alive when all you have is loin cloth and a spear!

This is important for you to understand because even though we no longer live in a primitive world, our body’s instincts and processes do not know the difference!

The only thing your body knows it that it was designed to move! Every single system in our body preforms better when we move more.
Did you know, the longer you sit during the day the higher the likelihood you will die!

A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology showed those who sit more than 6 hours per day, like your typical office worker, are at least 18% more likely to die from all causes (so this means heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, ANY disease or illness) than those who sat less than three hours a day, like a waitress or mail deliverer.

The most interesting part to me as an exercise physiologist about this study was that the findings were independent of exercise.
Let me break this down more clearly for you.

What this means is people who sit more than 6 hours a day are 18% more likely to die from all causes even if they exercised regularly!

This proves that moving little and moving often if just as important, and some might argue MORE important for health, than working out!

Mindful Weight Loss SOLUTION #2:
Move LITTLE! Move OFTEN

Move at least (this means move more often if you can!) every 60 to 90 minutes.

When I say get up and move this means get up out of your chair no matter where you are or what you are doing!
