Each day all over the world people are told news that they dread to
hear. We all know were going to pass away some day but that initial
shock of hearing a doctor telling you that you have a disease for
which there is no “known” cure is traumatic. I remember my
experience in Sept 2006 waiting in a doctors office with my wife for
the doctor to return after an examination; so much processes through
your brain in a short period of time. Like many of you I was diagnosed
with an uncurable disease, Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), which was
later rediagnosed as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). You probably
know a family member going through something similar. It is a shock
and traumatic. What I want to do, as someone with ALS, a disease which
is supposed to be a quick death sentence, is provide you with a
renewed feeling of hope for a positive outcome. You see after the
initial shock it quickly became evident to me that I needed to be in
control and not the doctor.
