"There's a big smile on my face right
now, and it's because of this book. I got Matt's book and jumped into
the beginner program. I've been able to get through 5 weeks of it so
far. First, this program really pushes me. Sometimes after the
workout, I just collapse and lay there for a while. And I'm not in bad
shape. So I'd recommend this to those of you who don't have a lot of
time, and want to get the most out of what little time they have to
exercise. The strength workouts usually take me about 35-37 minutes to
finish (including a 5 min warmup) and the conditioning workouts take
13-21 minutes to finish. That doesn't include the time afterwards
where I'm laying on my back happily gasping for air. Second, there's a
lot of additional info in here that gives you a great basis to begin
from. The "why" and the "how" are just as important as the exercise
program itself. I have a personal story here. I was getting a little
lower back pain after doing some front squats. The book has a couple
pages on the front squat. Between that and sending Matt an email
(which he answered happily and promptly), I was able to improve my
form a lot and avoid any permanent damage to my back. So why am I
smiling? Because I'm getting stronger. A lot stronger. And not just on
paper. It is noticably easier to move real world objects like
furniture or boxes. That, and I am putting on some good mass. I'm just
surprised that it's happening so quickly. That's why I am smiling.
Great book." Clark Russell "Matt Palfrey has done a great job of
providing clear, concise instructions on safely and effectively
implementing sandbag training into your workouts. I’ve met few
trainers whose knowledge or passion for sandbag-specific fitness
rivals that of Matt Palfrey – he is truly an expert in the field.
The photos and demonstrations in the book are also excellent. If you
are looking for top notch info on sandbag workouts, you’re in the
right place." Al Kavadlo (Author of Were Working Out, Raising The Bar
and Pushing The Limits) "This book is simply the definitive
written work on sandbag fitness. It outlines a huge variety of sandbag
fitness training regimes, progressions and of course a huge array of
the best and most effective sandbag excercises, all shown with high
quality photos and discriptions. The book also throws in some great
bodyweight exercises to compliment your training. It takes you through
a 10 week course of weekly progressions to improve conditioning and
strength. The 10th week being some sandbag fitness challenges to
really test yourself. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort has
gone into writing this book and this shows in the attention to detail
throughout. There is one other thing I really like about this book –
there is no fluff and it proves that you don’t need a gym or loads
of equipment to get super fit and super strong. It even shows you how
to make your own sandbag for less than £10. Buy this book you wont
regret it." Mike Eves of Kick Ass Fitness "This eBook is simple,
straight talking and gets to the heart of why 'functional' training is
key to a successful strength & conditioning gains. Too many people get
injured or fail to hit their ideal body image through conventional,
often expensive modes of training simply because society says that is
what you should do. Matt has thought outside of the box here and given
us a perfect excuse to move away from expensive, static & poor excuses
for exercise. This manual is a great read with some awesome images
well done Matt a great job looking forward to the next edition.
Training with sandbags has it's merits and the best part is that it
doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Lets see 300lbs of resistance for
around 40 bucks, not too shabby, right?" Glen Davies, Senior
Physiotherapist "In an industry which often makes out that
getting healthy requires specialist equipment seemingly borrowed from
NASA, its great to see a health professional that advocates the
benefits of using a bag of sand to get fit and strong. The Workouts
are clear and concise coupled with easily identifiable photo
illustrations, the programming is well structured with thought given
to all levels of the fitness spectrum. The training programme is
challenging and extremely effective, the author clearly knows his
stuff and puts across a convincing argument to ditch the monthly gym
membership and buy a sandbag! Impressive." Nick Michell, Health and
Fitness Industry Professional "I have been a personal trainer now
for over 10 years, and over the years I have seen fads in the exercise
industry. This certainly is no fad, the application of sandbag
exercises, can be integrated into every bodies training programmes,
whether you are just starting out, or you are an athlete. This guide
gives you everything you need to get started, teaching points, photos,
example programmes for beginners right through to the athlete. I have
also started following the Blog too, so if you have questions, you can
always ask the expert. As a coach i found this manual very helpful,
and it has helped my own training. It gives a step by step guide to
working out anywhere, So if you don't like training in a gym
environment, and are seeking other ways, to build strength and get
fitter. This is a must buy." Simon Ridley, Personal Trainer "I
became interested in sandbag training many years ago by books of Ross
and Wiggy. Later I started to use other stuff untill a few months ago
I stumbled accross the author's blog with his daily workouts posted. I
started to incorporate the shoulder and TGU again with the sandbag.
These workouts thrilled me again. I like the combination of sandbag,
kettlebell and BWE workouts. I got the complete guide to sandbag
training. This is a very great book to start. What you get will be a
good explanation of all kind of exercises. The book finishes with a
beginners, intermediate and advanced programmes. I have now 3
wonderfull sandbag resources in my library. This one should not be
missed and belongs to any great training book library. This is not for
(beach) body building but is for real life fitness. Whether you are a
martial artist (especially wrestler, judo player etc), you are in the
military or law enforcement, bouncer or just looking for a cheap
(compare the price of a barbell to a bag of sand) and fun and great
way to become fit. Get this book, get a bag of sand and start handling
the sand. The result, stronger grip, stronger body and a very fit you.
And use this book to guide you. Sandbag training is for everybody and
can be done everywhere. I want to thank Matthew for this great
resource." G.J.G. Riedel
