Learn to achieve in a few months what it takes others an entire lifetime to achieve

Here’s the reality…

Goal setting isn’t just about writing down your goals and having them come true. Why do you think so many New Year’s resolutions fail quickly?

If goal setting was that easy, we’d all be rich and living our dream life!

Sadly too many people believe goal setting works this way. That’s why they believe it is pointless to do goal setting. The next time they won’t set goals to avoid failure.

The fact is more people spend time planning their shopping list or their vacation, than they do their lives. In the long run, what is more important? Your shopping list or your life?

It sounds crazy, but if you really think about it, it’s true.

It’s time to get our priorities straightened out.
Why should you care about goal setting?

If you’re not where you want to be in your life, goal setting might be for you.

Your thinking, your choices, and your actions have led you up to this point. If you continue doing the same things, you’re going to get the same result. Trying to get different results is the definition of insanity.

Goal setting is important because it gives you direction. If you don’t know what want, how do you expect to every achieve it? That’s why goals are so important.

Keeping your eye on the goal is your GPS system. When you get off track, it adjusts to make sure you’re still aiming for that goal.
Goal setting changed my life

Before 2011, I was the type of person I wouldn’t want to be around now. I got out of college and started on the path of the typical life. I started working in the family restaurant, while figuring out what I really wanted to do. I had a couple internships, applied for jobs, but nothing permanent came out of it.

I still had the restaurant to fall back on. I was comfortable in the restaurant and making a good salary. I drove a BMW. I bought a house. I had a girlfriend. I was living life like I thought I should.

After about five years in the same job, I started to grow tired of it. The grind started to get to me. However, I didn’t know what else I wanted to do. I felt trapped. I had a mortgage and bills to pay. I kept working at the job cause it was safe, despite dreading the work everyday.

I saw a therapist to help with my problem. I read books on personal development. I kept hoping that my lucky break would come soon, but I didn’t even know what I wanted!

I even left the country for two years, because I had to get away. I hoped my time away would give me clarity about how where I could work. I didn’t want to go back to the restaurant!

Despite my attempts to not go back, I ended up back at the restaurant. That sucked. I felt stuck. I had my house still. I felt like I couldn’t sell it. I wanted to work, but wanted to do something I enjoyed. I didn’t want to be at the restaurant, but I had no where else to turn. I wasn’t going to go sit in an office making sales calls. No way.

In October 2010, driving home after another night of stressful work, I was fed up with my life. I was tired of how frustrated I had been for so long. Tired of not feeling happy. I’ve had many nights like that, but that night felt different.

I came home and went to straight to my computer. I typed a letter to myself to stop living like this. It was long letter to give me a wake up call. It was my future self talking to me in the present. I taped one copy in my office and one on the bathroom mirror.

I had never done any goal setting. I set some resolutions like lose weight or find a job, but like most, they failed quickly.

I was like a boat just floating in the ocean. I had no idea where I wanted to go. I hoped to land on a island that gave me what I was looking for.

This time I wanted to do things different. My past efforts failed me, so no way was I going to keep doing the same thing and expect different results. Since I was committed to changing my life, I went back to read old personal developments books I had. I read new ones. I decided to really apply goal setting.

I didn’t just write down my goals for 2011, but followed an action plan that would get me there. I reviewed my plan at the end of each day and week. I made sure I was on the right track. I saw what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong.

By the end of 2011, I had my best year yet. Dreams I’ve had for so long were realized. The difference was because of goal setting. Here are some goals I accomplished.

Developed my first ever iPhone app, Photo 365 Photo 365 got featured as New & Noteworthy, App of the Week, and What’s Hot. Made it to App of the Week in 45+ countries! I earned $30,000 in the first 30 days. Grew my blog, Get Busy Living, from zero to 5,000 monthly hits. Wrote my first free e-book Ran my second half marathon and finished right under my goal time of 2 hours Formed my own business And got married! (not because of goal setting, but still a happy moment!)

That’s not bad for just my first year. After this one year, I know it can do for you what it did for me.
