and HACKS for recording drums and getting a KILLER DRUM SOUND in
any studio (home or pro).

7 FACTS YOU MUST UNDERSTAND IF YOU ARE EVER GOING TO GET GREAT
SOUNDING DRUM RECORDINGS.

* Drums are notoriously one of the hardest instruments to record
because the drum kit is not actually one instrument. It’s a
combination of several individual instruments, sometimes as many as 40
separate pieces! You need to record each instrument on its own, or
figure out a way to accurately record each of the drum pieces as a
whole inside of a single room.

* Recording the drums is difficult because there are so many
different variables: the drummer's playing style, genre, drum
equipment, skins, mic settings, preamps, analog to digital conversion,
channel strips, hardware, software, digital audio workstations,
samples libraries, and mixing approaches. Each variable can vastly
affect the way you approach a session and what gear you need for the
job.

* Recording equipment can be incredibly expensive, and if you don’t
know whether a drum, microphone, or other piece of hardware is going
to do the job for you, you’ll end up wasting a lot of money through
trial and error. We’ll explore some ways of getting around this in a
minute.
* Commercial sound proofing materials also cost thousands of
dollars (seriously, a full set of commercial acoustic panels, bass
traps and sound-proofing averages over $4000), but it’s possible to
build the exact same functional materials for a fraction of the cost.

* To record drums at a commercial studio, you need to save a lot of
money, and there’s no room for error if you’re on a budget. You
don’t get too many chances to get it right. If you own the studio
and the gear however, you can record until you get the take perfect.
* Getting great sounds with Electronic drums is possible, but for
many people its just as difficult as recording real drums. The
components, gear, software, recording approach, and type of knowledge
needed to get a great recorded sound with electronic drums is way
different than acoustic drums.
* In order to get real experience with recording, you either need to
go to school, work in a studio, or figure out a way to do it yourself.
Recording arts colleges commonly charge upwards of $30,000 for their
courses, and internships are not fun and they take years of
near-janitorial work before you can move on to a real position.
However, there is another option
