[If You’re Not Dynamic Stretching, You May Be Hurting Yourself](http://dynamicstretchingzone.com/)

Dynamic Stretching may be the biggest breakthrough in fitness that you’ve never heard of. And it may be hurting you. For the past 10 years, articles have been popping up on the back pages of places like MSNBC & USA Today on the topic, reporting something pretty shocking: experts now say the classic, old school way of stretching is actually bad for you before a workout.

This kind of stretching, known as “static stretching” is what most of us are used to: holding a stretch for 20 seconds, touching our toes, grabbing your leg to stretch your quad, etc. This kind of stretching has been proven to put your Nervous System to sleep, and weaken muscles before a workout. When asked if static stretching before a workout is dangerous, Yale track and field head coach David Shoehalter said, “I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous, but it’s not helpful, and it can lead to injury.”

Unfortunately, this information has been slow to reach the mainstream. Most people who do stretch are still doing it the old fashioned way, unaware that their warm up may be hurting them. And even worse, these news articles neglect to suggest a comprehensive, suitable alternative, other than “a light jog”. But there is a much healthier, more powerful, holistic alternative to traditional stretching that boosts your performance and has been proven time and again to decreases the chance of getting hurt while exercising. That alternative is called dynamic stretching.

Experts Agree: Dynamic Stretching is the Best Warm Up



Dynamic Stretching consists of active movements that stretch the muscles while simultaneously stimulating them and “waking them “up.” Watching a full dynamic stretching routine at first is a little strange. Dynamic stretches often involve strange walking movements, twists, and silly looking hops that look nothing like traditional stretching. In clinical studies, Dynamic Stretching has been shown to increase muscle response and reduce likelihood of injury. Which is why most experts agree that dynamic stretches should be part of everybody’s preparation for a workout. A full Dynamic Stretching routine can eliminates the need for cardio, as the stretches in and of themselves will get your heart racing.
