What did not work for us?
We spent over $1,000 on marketing folders. I have over 700 of them collecting dust in my basement. We spent over $1,000 on promotional items (pens and memory sticks) and passed them out at trade shows and small business expos. The result: a negative balance in our bankbook.


What worked for us?
We approached multi-unit building owners who we met at REO association meetings and offered their renters a discount on our services. We approached large businesses in our area and offered to adopt them.

You need to ask yourself:

After writing and brainstorming for a while, we came to a few conclusions:

The people moving ahead are not spending lots of money on advertising.
The people moving ahead are not relying on standard marketing techniques.


Well, that was all fine and dandy but how did that help us? We decided to look for new ways to get business.

We came up with our own ideas for bringing in new clients. We spent every evening together for the next month and just brainstormed as many crazy ideas as we could think of. We were able to create a plan for our second year that we were very excited about.

We didn’t spend much money

We just went about finding new business in interesting ways. We took all of our failures and successes and put them together to make a new plan. Six months later and our business was:
