Recipes and Vignettes with memories of growing up in the Chicago
area. Such as, taking a walk after dinner for a real “Chicago
Dog”, memories of family parties and holiday traditions.
As I wrote my \"TRADITIONAL COOKBOOK", I embraced, at a deeper level,
my ancestry. I found it to be very rewarding. From simple folk came
some wonderful traditions that are truly ancient.
ON CHRISTMAS EVE my mother made "gravy" with CALAMARI/SQUID along
with BACCALA (CODFISH SALAD) and perhaps a BAKED EEL.
These traditions are centuries old. I was surprised to find that out
myself. Growing up with these traditions, I took them for granted.

EASTER had its own traditions.

v SWEET RICOTTA PIE˜ Both were on the table during the week of
Easter. BISCOTTI cookies and KNOTS were all year favorites. Sometimes
we colored the icing for the season.
As a child, I spent much time in my mother's kitchen watching her
cook for a houseful of family. As an adult and mother of two, I lived
next door to her for years. To me, cooking was a creative outlet-a
challenge to perfect. After 40 years of tasting and refining, I have
put together my favorite recipes...some have migrated to America with
my Italian grandmothers over a century ago.
However, cooking is more than recipes. I am passionate about the
preparation of each dish. It makes a difference in the result.
\"TRADITIONAL COOKBOOK\" is filled with all the ingredients necessary
to turn the ordinary into extraordinary. Having evolved over the last
100 years, these recipes have moved into the 21st century with me. In
addition, through the pages of this AMAZING COOKBOOK, these same
recipes can easily be handed down to the next generation.
