We Had a Number of Options to Consider
Before making important decisions, a variety of options should first
be considered. At the inception of our Program, we followed this wise
advice. We wanted to make the best decision when determining two very
important objectives. Our _first objective_ was to adopt a content
delivery format that would ensure optimum retention of both knowledge
and skills for our clients/customers.
Our _second objective_ was to offer the most cost effective content
delivery format for our clients/customers. It was at this point that
we kept our key objectives in mind, and evaluated all of the available
options: an e-Book manual, an executive retreat curriculum, a
tele-coaching program, a seminar/workshop, and a subscription
membership program format.
After an in-depth analysis of content delivery formats with regard
to our first objective (optimum knowledge and skills retentions), we
eliminated three (3) of the five (5) delivery format options. We
concluded that these delivery format options would ultimately not be
in best interest of our clients/customers because of following
reasons:
* An e-book manual takes up valuable space on your computer's hard
drive. And, you are left alone without ongoing instruction and
guidance as how to best implement the e-book manual content
information.
* An executive retreat is often just a "cram course" over a long
weekend which generally involves travel expenses and time away from
office and home. And, you are left alone without ongoing instruction
and guidance as how to best implement the executive retreat content
information.
* A seminar or workshop is generally presented in a "classroom
setting" which oftentimes is in a banquet-type facility not the most
stimulating learning environment. And, you are, once again, left alone
without ongoing instruction and guidance as how to best implement the
seminar/workshop content information.
The content quality of these types of formats may indeed be good to
excellent; however, these formats simply deliver content in a process
known as "information dumping". Information dumping significantly
contributes to our problems with information overload and low-learning
retention levels.
Research indicates that there is a more effective way of learning
that not only increases comprehension, but also increases retention
levels. A more effective method sub-divides the information of any
given subject matter into "bite-sized" pieces or small increments that
are delivered over a designated time period. This method of content
delivery is commonly referred to as "information dripping".
