* When Prohibition ended in 1933, bars reopened and served clients
free salty snacks, to encourage them to drink more. With the onset of
television in the fifties, advertising promoted salty snacks and sales
boomed. Today Americans drink an estimated excess of 52 gallons of
soda drinks per person every year. Poor nutrition results in tooth
decay, leaving the human body more susceptible to disease.
* Our foods have become bleached, refined, chemically preserved,
pasteurized, sterilized, homogenized, hydrogenated, artificially
colored, defibered, highly sugared, highly salted, synthetically
fortified (enriched), canned and generally exposed to hundreds of
man-made chemicals.
* Schools, under financial duress, chose to use private services
and sell non-nutritious foods for profit.
* There are 3,000 high production volume chemicals (HPV) which may
be present in the food supply. Children's ability to detoxify
chemicals is limited because of their developing bodies.
* It takes only 30 seconds for a television commercial to influence
a child age 2-6. Aggressive marketing is one of the largest
contributors to child obesity and type-2 diabetes.
* Americans are hearing a message of "eat less" from nutritional
experts, but at the same time, the commercial food industry is
tempting them to eat more of the wrong foods in greater quantity in
order to promote sales.
* The major ploys of the food industry are to make foods sweet,
fat, and salty and give Americans large quantities but keep prices
low. They also want to make eating fast and keep Americans confused
about what is good for them.
