To run a successful online business, you have to have four components. It’s like a total package. Without any one component, your online business will not work.
Let’s take a look at these four components.
Component #1: Website.
This will be your vehicle for all your online activities. You can use your website in many different ways. For example, you can use it to setup dynamic sales pages, static websites (more for corporate sites), or you may use it to capture visitors’ contact information with an opt-in form.
Component #2: Traffic.
Once you have a website, you are going to need traffic. Without traffic, nothing ever happens on a website. Even the best sales copy will amount to nothing if you don’t know how to drive targeted traffic. Master traffic, and your online business will succeed for sure.
Component #3: Product or service.
With traffic, you need to be able to monetize the traffic to start making money. That means you must have something to sell. You can either sell your own product or service, or you can be an affiliate and promote someone else’s products and services. Alternatively, if you don’t want to sell anything, you can put up some ads and earn some revenue.
Component #4: A list.
I’m talking about a list of prospects and/or customers. Whenever a visitor arrives at your website, he can either do what you want him to do, or he can choose to leave. Usually, new visitors won’t do what you want them to do (especially if you are after their credit cards) if they don’t know who you are. So you want them to give you a chance to introduce yourself.
You can do this by creating an opt-in form so that visitors who don’t want to buy anything upfront can leave their names and email addresses with you.
Once you have captured the contact information, you can always email them again to introduce new or existing products to them.
There you have it, the fool-proof money making formula…

Looks like I’m all set to be making boatloads of money right?
Well, not yet it seems…
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve had to tackle a host of challenges. Here are some of the challenges that I’ve encountered. And I know you’ll come face to face with them sooner or later.
Register the right domain name. (Be careful with this. Many people don’t know that a domain name may make or break your online business.) Choose the right web host. – (Choose the wrong host and you are in for some headaches – aspirin please!) Choose the right Content Management System (CMS) - (I used to go, “What the heck is that?”) Choose the right products to promote. Set up sales page with appropriate graphics. Drive traffic to website. – (Took me a long time to learn how to do this properly.) Setting up a squeeze page to capture contact information. Setup autoresponders to send out follow-up emails.
To overcome these challenges, I had to learn how to work with graphic software, write sales copy, work with website creation software, create new products, and perform SEO all at the same time. Yikes! – Not very hands off, and definitely not very sexy and glamorous.
As you can see, there’s a lot of inertia to be overcome here. I had the knowledge, but to overcome the inertia, what I needed was really TOOLS AND RESOURCES.
Unfortunately, the right resources wasn’t provided to me when I was first starting out.

To get a site to rank well (and stay on top), you need to pay attention to 3 components.
Content (Get this wrong and your site may get banned! – No joke.) On-site optimization (Don’t get penalized just because you ignored some simple rules!) Off-site optimization
For many beginners, off-site optimization is the most challenging. That’s because off-site optimization is about link building – i.e. getting as many external sites as possible to link to yours.
The problem is, since these are external sites, you can’t really just go up to the webmaster and ask for a link. So what do you do?

Contribute something in exchange for a link. Be a participant on a website. Offer to pay for a back link.

You have to be a little careful when getting back links. You want to make sure that all your links have proper anchor texts in them. Anchor texts are the words that you use in your links.
For example, instead of saying “Click Here” in your links, use your target keyword phrase in the links – like “SEO expert tips”. You see, each link counts as a vote for your website.
The more links you have with proper anchor texts in them, the higher your website will rank for that keyword. So if someone searches for “SEO expert tips”, your site will have a higher chance of appearing near the top of the search results.

Now that you know how to drive traffic with SEO, it’s time to setup your website and put some of that knowledge into practice.

Open source means that you don’t have to pay a single cent for the software, and that there are literally hundreds of developers working hard to develop useful upgrades and extensions for this software.
In fact, the software has become so robust and powerful that you can now setup different types of websites from this platform.
By default, Wordpress is a blogging platform. So if you are intending to start a blog, then just go with the default installation.
However, bear in mind that Wordpress is also very versatile. In the event that you wish to setup an ordinary website (like a corporate site or a personal site), you can do so with a few simple tweaks.
I’ll show you how to do that in this Quick Start Guide. On top of that, I’ll also show you how you can use Wordpress to setup a complete sales website. Believe it or not, this entire site is powered by Wordpress!

Resource Pack #3: 350 Wordpress Themes

(This is the real biggie.) Once you have installed Wordpress on your hosting account, you now have to configure your site so that it looks professional and works the way you want it to.
To achieve that, you have a few options. You can (1) install an open source template, (2) design something unique by yourself, or (3) hire someone else to design a brand new theme for you.
Unfortunately, open source templates are often over-used. In addition, some designers require you to link back to them if you use their themes – doesn’t look very nice if you are setting up a website for a company.

One of easiest ways to get started is to set up an Adsense site. Using Adsense to monetize a site is easy to learn and execute.All you need to do is to sign up with Adsense (free) for an account, and then cut and paste some Ad codes on your site.
