Dear Fellow Wealth Builder,
I know what it means to be short on cash, with payday still weeks
away.
Less than 7 years ago I was flat broke and struggling to keep my
wife and four children fed and housed on a minimum wage job. I used to
joke that we were one hospital visit, or other disaster, away from
bankruptcy.
But frankly, living on the edge of financial ruin is no laughing
matter. It has a way of destroying lives and breaking up great
families. Thankfully, I had a wife with unending patience, and faith
that eventually things would come around.
I had managed to run up over $16,000 in credit card debt, and when
you do the math, the minimum payments due to stay current on my high
interest credit card debt nearly exceeded my monthly take home pay.
OBVIOUSLY, WE WERE JUST SCRAPING BY.
The final straw came when I watched the repo man drive my pickup
truck down the road.
I realized at that moment that I had to change my ways. So, I
started hanging out in the Public Library, reading everything I could
find on money management and how to get out of debt. Most of it was
garbage, written for college students and accountants.
However, I did manage to discover some treasures that I would
recommend to anybody in my position at the time. Authors like Robert
Allen, George Clason, and Og Mandino helped me dig myself out of the
hole I had put myself in. More recently, authors like Dave Ramsey and
Robert Kiyosaki have added a ton of great ideas to money management
and creating personal wealth.
But reading only took me so far. The real work started when I faced
the demons of my spending habits and lack of income. As I learned the
discipline to save and invest, I realized many other people were in
the same boat I was in.
Those were dark days, and now I want to share my hard earned secrets
of getting out of debt and creating personal wealth with you.
