Chapter Three
Be Natural, Be Informal

If you are still a novice canvasser, do first try to come across as
a human being rather than as a role-playing professional.

Though canvassing is a serious business, getting acquainted with a
stranger should not be.

ALL FRIENDS WERE STRANGERS ONCE!

Be charming, be easygoing, and the conversation is bound to flow.
Once you have reached the people-level you needn't worry. Just remain
unassuming and gentle and your shared dialogue will look after itself.
The insight gained from your conversation will make your speaking
fluent and it will see you through.

Creative canvassing is so closely linked to being human, to the
people-people level, that the switch from conversation to canvassing
is barely noticeable. But this liquid movement can only be effectively
implemented by a canvasser who is intuitively perceptive and has deep
feelings. To be allowed into the hearts and minds of people is the
