But when someone says. We're on this diet. What can I create with this pepper?... and it gets somehow confused in my head and I say… "Em, ah, what do you need?" and somehow I can’t do it.

I think maybe my brain is lazy or something but…

“Oh, I hadn’t realized I was eating that!” or “I hadn't realized how often I was eating”

Or from the other side of the aisle... The ones who think they're overeating because they had a full fatty English breakfast. When they recorded what they ate all day, they found that they had the English breakfast, but they didn’t eat again for 8 hours.

But the healthy oat porridge eaters were eating 2 hours later because their breakfast didn't satisfy them as long.

Who’s right? Who’s wrong.

Do you know…

You only know yourself by recording your behaviors. It’s amazing what you find out.

So I created an easy way to do it. The food diary…

It can be used electronically or printed out and stuck in your pocket. So no matter where you are or how busy you are you simply fill it in and file it when you get home.

At the end of the week or the month you review what you’ve done and see the truth in black and white". You will then see how much weight you're actually losing.

Now, obviously everyone goes up and down in weight naturally every month, so it’s important to record everything. You will see for yourself what your cycle really is and realize you're still losing weight.

The Exercise Diary is used to record the exercise you do on a daily basis. It can be recorded in the food diary if it’s simple, but in case it’s not…

This is where the exercise diary comes into play. It will show if you're quite active or becoming more so, which I expect a lot of you will as you begin to lose weight.

It’s one thing to roughly know what you did, but it’s better to know exactly.

For example, a simple technique is to increase what you do every time you do it. So if you went running for 10 minutes, then the next time you run, do an extra minute.

If you do this every time you run, once you've run 10 more times, you will be running for 20 minutes.

And you probably notice that you're very capable of doing more. When you realize this, you simply add two or more minutes instead of one. Before you know it, you will be running for an hour.

It’s also a very common thing “to limit oneself”– to think that you cannot do something to the level you’d like. You have an expectation of what you're capable of, but very often you greatly underestimate your capabilities and start off at a far lower level than you should.

So it’s important to find where your actual capabilities are, and build on them, rather than building up to something that was always easy for you.

The more you stretch your abilities, the more ability you will have to stretch even further.

And, when you look back at what you have been doing, you will see the progress and know you're getting better every day.

So you must have some questions. I know I did when I worked all this out….

Will the weight loss be just water?


It’s a good question. And the answer is… some of it will be.
And it’s actually what you want.

When you lose weight you lose water. When you lose fat you lose more water and that’s because to burn 1 gram of fat you will also lose 1-2 grams of water at the same time as that’s how the fat is stored. It’s not 100% fat; it’s actually fat and water combined.

So when you lose fat you also lose water. But think about it, what do you actually want? Do you want to just lose fat or do you want to lose weight as well?

I know it sounds daft, but too many people focus on the fat part and forget that the goal is to lose weight, and hence size, and not just fat. If your fat composition went down but you looked the same size you would you be happy?

And anyway it’s just how the body works. You lose fat, so you lose water. But that means when you lose 1 pound of fat you also lose 1-2 pounds of water. Cool, 3 pounds lighter already.

And, yes I can hear the next question you're going to ask…

But won't I put all the weight back
on when I stop?

The answer is: that you will put about 20%-30% of your weight back on when you stop. Which is perfectly natural. In fact pretty much all diets will do this, as your body will naturally put some weight back on when you stop.

But what’s important to remember is that your fat will not come back on… as it’s gone.

If you lose 10 to 15 pounds of weight, around 30% to 50% will be fat and that will take a long time to come back on. If you stick to what you learned, you simply start again and the water will vanish just as quickly as it came back on.

Simple

But if you're doing this diet for a special occasion, isn’t it good to be the extra 'water weight' lighter as well? After all, you’ll be lighter when you need it, and it’s very easy to remove it, along with more fat, when your ready to do some more.

And then over the course of a week or more you will be even more...
