but my mother was devastated. After all, she was the one who had taken
care of Willy all those years.

Fast Forward to 1994 when I got my first dog. She was a purebred
English Bulldog and she was the cutest thing I'd ever seen. It was
definitely love at first sight.
I wanted the best for her so I fed her Iams - it was just out on the
market and one of the few premium brands available at that time. I had
heard such great things about it from my local pet store.
But then she got all kinds of skin things. She got mange, she got
ringworm, she got these things called "hot spots" and a lot of _HER
HAIR WAS FALLING OUT_.
I took her to a dermatologist veterinarian - actually I took her
numerous times for each one of those conditions. Each time the doctor
would prescribe antibiotics and medicated shampoos and potent
anti-fungals to try to cure her.
Then she'd just come down with another skin thing. The worst was the
one I called the "flesh-eating disease". She would get a minor scratch
and within hours it would spread and grow to be a huge oozing horrible
looking thing.
More trips to the vet - more antibiotics - more worrying.
Thousands of dollars later . . .
IT HAPPENED BY ACCIDENT . . .
Then one day I needed to get her some more dog food. I also needed
some things for me. First I went to a natural foods store to get some
groceries. When I was there I noticed a dog food section. I thought
why make an extra trip to the pet food store, I'll just buy something
here. I saw a new food called Avo lamb and rice. It was another
premium brand and I decided to give it a try.
