My story is a simple one. I grew up in the high Sierra Nevada's on
the California side. I grew up in an area that was very different from
where I live now.
In my youth, I was used to the green lush woods filled with pine
trees and cedars. The entire area was surrounded by deep beautiful
blue lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and above all of that and abundance of
fertile soil.
Even at a young age, I was aware that we needed to take care of our

My job at the time led me in another direction entirely. I ended up
moving from my pristine fertile area into a landscape that reminded me

After working another long boring day at work, I was sitting at home
watching a television show on gardening that reminded me of something
that I had learned in college. The show detailed how you could create
compost with ease using red worms or what is called vermiculture or
vermicomposting.
The narrator of the program went through the various steps of the
composting process and showed in brief detail how these little worms
with the fancy names of Eisenia foetida or Lumbricus rubellus were

actually have a biology degree and understood exactly what the guy was

I thought to myself. I didn't have the money to create a structure
to house my worms, let alone protect my plants from the forces of
nature at my small remote location.
I felt despair come over me. I thought my organic gardening hobby
had finally come to an end. All I needed was a way to make worm
compost. If I could, I knew I could make finally make my soil fertile
and begin to grow again.
Looking into a bedroom, I noticed that the closet was half open. I
